Hello, I'm new to overclocking, anyways I want to OC my HP DV3021TX but I think the BIOS is locked... Any ideas on what to do?

Someone told me that the Internal BIOS code should be changed to perform overclocking. The Chipset code for the unit should be changed...
    How do I this?

Theres no methods to OC the CPU for that chipset at the moment. Its not worth OC'ing the CPU on notebooks anyway.

Its only worth OC'ing the GPU.

GPU is the bit I want to overclock, I know its a simple notebook but my parents won't let me have a lappy like a dell xps17" coz they reckon "its to expensive"

What graphics card do you have?

You can use RivaTuner or Ntune to overclock your card.

Tried Ntuner, I asked HP support and they said I need to change the Internal BIOS code to perform overclocking. The Chipset code for the unit should be changed...

So i'm stuck with that, ntune gives me an error, tried ati tool aswell but it says it it cant do it

Chipset code is only needed to overclock the CPU/FSB

GPU's work seperately from that. Try Rivatuner, it is what i use to overclock my HP.

What driver are you using and what video card?

    Driver Version 7.15.11.7490 - 3/04/2008
    Nvidia Geforce 8400GS

The driver is some special HP one I think coz the nvidia website saids get the drivers from HP.com.

Thats because the driver your using isnt capable of overclocking.

Use 169.04, thats what i use to overclock my 8400m GS.

Download GPU-z for more info about your card.

I tried to install the 169.04, but it said that it could not find any drivers that are compatable with my current hardware

It was the Vista 32 bit one

You need to download the modded inf and slip it into the folder before running the setup file.

The modded inf will unlock support for notebooks.

I did that, and used the have disk instructions on laptopvideo2go.com but i encountered another error.

    Here's how it goes:

Windows found driver software for your device but encounted an error while attempting to install it.

    Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS

The sytem cannot find the file specified.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit the website and check the support section for driver software.

EDIT: The files were corrupt, got new ones

Download GPU-z and it will show the stock clocks against the effective clocks.

(do not copy these settings as it might not be stable on yours)

Keep the temps below 85c just to be safe. You cannot control the fan because its shared with the CPU fan. The BIOS controls the fan.

Darn, Im back to square one again. I put the clock up by ~3 and it reset when i press ok, i reinstalled the driver then it reset clock to default.

OCing worked b4 but not anymore...

Underclocking works tho, not that i need it...

For some reason the stock memory clock was at 400Mhz and i can't get it past 490, i looked at the photo u uploaded and its @ 750 which is substantialy higher. Shouldnt i be able to atleast get 550?

Flipfire. Does the Dox version of 180.84.1,provide for overclocking? Besides am also curious to know your rig's specs. I have a dv7 myself, so could you suggest the best way to overclock the GPU in it?

If the clocks reset back after you click apply then the drivers arent oc'able. The OC guide can be found here. It will also work for dv7t since its the same card.
