I see people over clocking their ATI HD 5830's in the same laptop basically as mine, sig has specs. In catalyst control center I have no options to get to the overdrive menu or overclock. Version .9.8 of ATI GPU Tool tells me "No valid devices found" An older version opens but my GPU is at 100 MHz and the Ram at 199MHz with everything grayed out. I tried the MSI Afterburner but Voltage and Fan Speed are grayed out, and I know i can enable voltage in the options. Regardless of what I set, when I click apply in MSI Afterburner it just goes back to 500/800.

Driver is 3/2/2010 version 8.712.0.0 from ATI Technologies Inc.

I get a 7.1 CPU, 7.4 RAM 6.8 both gaming and desktop graphics, 7.7/7.6 HDD in the Windows Experience Index

Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

    Try AMD GPU Clock Tool 0.9.26 (that's a 26 not 2.6 so it's newer than 9.8)

techPowerUp! :: Download AMD GPU Clock Tool v0.9.26.0 For HD 5870

    it might work.

if not you can always try out MSI Afterburner and set enableunofficialoverclocking up in the .cfg file

set it to EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 1

    it's near the bottom.

I'd try out amd gpu clock tool 0.9.26 first though

You have to use a different version of the clock tool - I'll try to find the download link again.

EDIT: I think the one you need to install is the version Magus Draco posted above for the 5870. You should be able to set the clocks to around 540/1125 or so.

It should look like this after you install it:

yeah this thing SHOULD work for the 5650 but it won't work on the envy 14's 5650.

we discovered all that way way way back when.

best we can use is MSI Afterburner 1.61

    What about voltage?
Which voltages are available for a 5830?
    I have a 4830 (1st gen) and 0,95V seems the only option...

The only voltage option available on the tool for the 5830 is 0.90V.

there may be some other setting for undervolting, but I am not aware of how to do it.

I really would like other voltages than just one (0,95V) ...
    even for underclocking
