I honestly don't know 100%. I am just speculating. I would imagine that an updated driver released on HP's website would be modified to take the bios update into account. There haven't been any drivers released after the bios update, so the current drivers may not be as stable as possible in the ability to swap between fixed and manual.
And hopefully more stable drivers would allow for a higher overclock.

Ok so i tried to run 3dmark 11 to further test my overclocking but when i ran the test and the results came up it says it was using the intel gpu
. I double checked to make sure that the CCC was set to high performance and it was. Any ideas?

How do I download the new bios update? I have a dv6100 lapto that has the 6770 graphics card. I'm looking up how to download it and all that's coming up is this hp driver installer which downloads a driver detective program. The program scans and says I have a driver to update but wants a registration key, which I don't have. How can I download the bios driver update for free?

But dont do it, it just made things run worse compared to 11.5b hotfix. -

Where in the bios menu can I find the option to change the switchable graphics?

Why can't I keep my overclocks? Every time I close Afterburner after I set my OC, it reverts back to 725/800. Is there a solution or do I have to keep afterburner on the whole time
-
-
Does overclocking void the warranty?
-
-
-
You need afterburner running in the background to overclock. You can't close it. I also wouldnt oc at startup... No need for the extra gpu strain and heat when you aren't gaming.
-
Ive been playing World of Warcraft with Crossfire on and its just laggy. So I turned CF off and wow what a difference! Much smoother and higher Frame rates. Overclocking the cpu seems to help frame rates to.

My Lenovo AMD GPU 6570 scores higher on the GPU go figure...

Those of you who are having stability issues with the core at 850, lower it to between 800 and 825 and take the memory as high as it will go! You will see more performance out of the memory than the core anyway. I'm not sure if I got better memory than most (2gb card), but my memory will do 975mhz all day with no voltage bump, and little to no added temp increase, whereas I get pretty significant temp increases on the core at anything over 800mhz. I tried the magical 1ghz on the mem last night, but got visible artifacting (no lockups or recovery), so I left it at 975mhz and called it a day.
-
Awesome! Glad these are finally out. Thanks for the help.

I got my 2g 6770 up to 875/1000 and it seems stable so far.
I ran Vantage twice and got P8233 and P8286 (7011 and 7029 graphics).
3dmark11 was P1868 (1673 graphics,5512 physics, 1673 combined).
Nice to see this beating a stock 460m in benchmarks lol.
I'm not sure if I should try and go higher since I'm a nub at overclocking.
My max temps are CPU 90c and GPU 71c with a cooler that knocks off about 6 degrees at load.
Running FurMark I've maxed out about 90c while running "burn in" rather than extreme "burn in". Am I using this correctly?
Thanks a lot for the tutorial con247 -

I may have just been lucky with the memory on the 2g 6770m. Perhaps because it was new? I placed my order one day after HP announced the screen upgrade and before I knew that the extra gig of video memory was pretty much a waste of money. That said, when looking at the record holders on the 3dmark site are running the 1gb 6770m model.

More 3DMark 11 Bench...
With 850/1000 I get P1850 3DMarks with 1655 Graphics Subscore.
I ran Furmark for 7 minutes. It averaged 6FPS with a total of 2139 frames rendered with a max temp of 90 degrees C.
I am going to try 875/1000 for stability and post a score for that later if I can. I really don't have a reliable way to check with game FPS -
-
It seems like 875 core is out of the question for me. Gonna run furmark on 850/1000 for a bit longer.
-
I don't have numbers to back this up, but if you are using the 1080p laptop screen for RIFT you can run it at a 768 on high/ultra (with some tweaks) and it still looks GREAT. If you are running HDMI to a 27" monitor it may look like utter dog sheit. It might be my monitor but anything but native 1080 pretty much looks like crap with that game.

Whoa, I didn't mean to offend anybody. On the dv6z threads we have a bunch of guys from the 't' crowd and the input has been welcomed as many peeps are trying to decide if one or the other suits them better during their 21 days of 'returnability' . In my own case I couldn't make up my mind because of the driver issues on the 't' and the questions surrounded the power of the llano z's. I ordered the llano to check first because i thought it *might* be enough, and it was cheaper and seemed better equipped.
As Kalooka pointed out, they do seem to suit different needs, since the thread was about overclocking the 6770, I *assumed* people were investigating the graphics potential of the "t". Thought you might be interested in comparison with what the z can do. Wasn't trolling.
As for how rift looks, its fine at 1366x768 on my lappy screen, and pretty amazing on the 65inch Mitsu DLP at 1080p. (DLP doesn't have the lag or ghosting of the lcd's or plasmas).
In any event, didnt mean to intrude, just wanted to add some more information to people working with the 6700 cards (the 6750 is the same silicon, just lower clocked).
bye

Hello,
Im stable now at 825/950, but I would love to be able to go a bit higher. For some reason, MSI Afterburner is not letting me raise the voltage on the 6770m GPU. I went into settings and checked the boxes that allow voltage monitiroing and control, but I still couldnt move the sliders. Is there something Im missing here? How do you raise the voltage? -
I wasn't trying to be a jerk or anything, I just don't want to make this thread any more confusing than it needs to be to people who are interested in overclocking.
@BeaverRat you can use sapphire trix to overvolt.
I just finished running furmark for 20 minutes on 850/1000 and it seemed fine with Max GPU temp of 93 degrees. I think I am going to leave it at that for now. -
Isn't 93 degrees Celsius kind of hot?
-
-
Yeah but it will always be hotter with Furmark. It probably won't get nearly that high gaming. Furmark puts 100% strain on the GPU which a game will usually let up here and there to let it cool. The temp drops about 20 degrees within about 25 seconds of ending Furmark so the cooling system is great.
-
That's good to hear. Thanks for trying that all out and giving us your results. -
-
-
I don't have the details, but even if I can complete benchmarks, anything above 880/1030 generally gives a downgrade in tearms of numbers, have I hit a voltage threshold or something?
-
How are you guys able to run 3dmark 11.. it will not work with me, it keeps using the intel gpu. Before anyone asks yes it is set to high performance and i do have the latest bios (set to fixed mode) and drivers from intel and amd. In fact i am using the intel drivers (hp) and the latest 11.8 preview drivers from amd.
-
IMO, furmark isn't enough to test for temperature stability. Furmark maxes out the GPU but does very little CPU work. SC2 usually maxes out the GPU too but the CPU is stressed hard as well.
-
Is it bad to leave the 6770m running all the time? It's kind of a pain to go in and switch the graphics card every time I'm doing something other than gaming. Will it hurt the computer at all to leave the graphics card running? Thanks.
-
I plan to leave mine on all the time, except for when its not plugged in. You can set it in the CCC to automatically switch to the intel gpu as soon as you unplug.
-
Actually with fixed mode with automatic switch depending on power source enabled, it is not guaranteed that it would automatically switch to Intel as soon you run on battery.
There will be times, it will not switch or let you switch either. -
There won't be an issue running the 6770m all the time, but it will use more power, more heat, and wear the thermal paste out faster. I prefer the intel chip at all times except gaming.
-
Yay! I downgraded my CCC to 11.5b hotfix and StarCraft 2 doesnt crash now at 850/930! Pretty pleased with the results. I can play it at 1080p with everything on ultra except shaders (those are on high). I get an average of 40 FPS.
-
So, my DV6TQE is probably gonna arrive in the next couple days, and I'm curious: what drivers should I install? I know people are having different results with different drivers, and I honestly don't know what to do! All help is much appreciated!
-
2. minimal restore
3. BIOS update
4. 11.5b hotfix
imo
if you're installing on a SSD it'll be a little diferent -
Thanks. Where do I get the 11.5b hotfix?
Edit: Found it. Thanks again! -
how to make a minimal restore after using recovery discs?
