Overclocking the i7-8750H in the Spectre x360 15t-df000?

Back to these forums after six years of desktop usage! Switching back to a laptop, this time with an eGPU setup.

Any idea why my XTU settings aren't sticking? Still hitting current limit throttling... HP Spectre x360 with i7-8750H stuck at 42W (see graph), despite power max set to 55W and current limit set to 200A (from the 45W and 128A defaults). Stuck at a sub-1000 Cinebench R15 score, the horror.

Is the power limit fixed to ~42W in the BIOS or something? If so, what else can I try to eke out as much CPU performance from this CPU?

 

Uninstall XTU and Use ThrottleStop with R/W Everything driver to set max TDP and current limit and forget about throttling.
H series aren't overclockable and you can set only high TDP and current values. If you have unlocked BIOS then BCLK might be overclockable to certain extent.

 

Right, by overclocking I meant raising TDP so that the sustained clock is higher. Right now at 42W it settles around 3.0-3.1 GHz all cores.

Thanks; I'll check out the R/W Everything driver. Won't that driver enable me to make the same changes in XTU too? I like the interface so much more than Throttlestop's.

 

Throttle retains functions that have been omitted from XTU, like more granular voltage offsets for starters.

To each their own though.

 

Any idea where I go into R/W Everything to set the max TDP for this laptop? Not sure which register(s) to use in the CPU MSR table or the EC table.

 

I don't know the correct regions, I just use TS and RWdrv.sys driver that unclewebb included in TS folder that points to Mega.nz
