    overheating

    i have a compaq armada v300 that keeps overheating. the fan on the side turns off after windows has started. is windows the cause or is it the notebook, and if its windows, is there any fix or program i can use

    When you say overheating, do you mean it actually locks or the system shuts down after a bit? If not, it could just be your power management settings that is turning the fan off. Try adjusting the settings in the Control Panel and see if it helps. You may also want to check the BIOS to see if you have any settings there for the fan/power management.

    when it heats up, the keyboard, mouse, and ps/2 port doesnt work. i didnt see any settings in the control panel. i have no idea how to get into the bios. it doesnt say what button to press.

    As the Armada series is kind of old, it might be that the thermal seal between the heatsink and the CPU has come loose enough to cause a poor seal and overheating. I am thinking in that general direction because the fans are still turning.

    I know this sounds stupid, but have you checked for dust clogging the vents?
