    Hey.
I was looking into buying this laptop but read on the forums that there have been quite a few complaints of overheating. I plan to game a lot with the laptop and so will probably be pushing the laptop. Is it true that the cooling system is quite inefficient? Is it only for games and such, or even for movies, web browsing etc.
Was going to go for a Samsung with similar spec but smaller screen cos it has really good cooling. Let me know. Thanks!

Some folks here have had an issue with heat under certain processes being run, but not all of them. Seems it is in the area of the gpu and with certain processers. There are some different ways to tone down the temp if you heat up one way is undervolting. Don't let this interfere with your decision on buying one. This notebook has great reviews and is considered one of the best,if not in its category.

Yeah true enough, the reviews are more or less stellar. But I just want to make sure my laptop won't become faulty after a couple of months use. My friends used to own a HP laptops a few years ago and they always turned out faulty. Has HP's quality come up since then (i think it was like at least 3 years ago).

I use the Zalman NC2000 when I game, and temps are quite low. 40's for the CPU and 60 tops for the 9600. Compare that to a dv5t and there's quite a difference

I had some problems with overheating, but then I figured out that was because a desk blocks the main vent. If you put something underneath that back of your laptop to prop it up at all, temps go down about 20 degrees Celsius and it runs incredibly cool. In other words: if I was ordering again, I'd get the 12 cell battery.

Does the 12 cell prop up the laptop? And on a side note...what kind of battery life can be expected with a 12 cell battery? The temps seem fine when using a cooler...but without the cooler what are the temps like when gaming/heavy usage?

yes it does prop it up. Look for the recent review somebody did on the hdx16 here. It shows pics of the 12 cell from the side to show the difference. People have reported 4-5 hours under normal use. If you keep it slightly elevated almost like the 12 cell would you probably won't have any temp issues when gaming...
