HP hasn't posted any Vista webcam drivers to their website. We've gotten ahold of one driver, that's posted in the Vista Driver stickied thread, but many users can't use that driver. So, if you have a new HP notebook that came preloaded with Vista, we could use your help.
Anyone with a new machine (that was preloaded with Vista) please take a moment to lookup the device ID for your webcam, by following these steps:
1) Go to control panel, then device manager.
2) Select Imaging device, then the HP Pavilion webcam.
3) Go to the details page, and select Hardware Ids from the property dropdown.
Please compare the value shown to these:
1) USB\VID_0C45&PID_62C0&REV_0100&MI_00 --> We have this driver.
or
2) USB\VID_05CA&PID_1870&REV_0100 --> We NEED this driver.
Please take a moment to post which model system you have, and which Hardware ID your system shows. Our members would be VERY grateful. If your Hardware ID matches #2 above, it would be awesome if you could rar the entire directory C:\SwSetup\MISC5 and then post it online at one of the many free file hosting sites. If you need help, please PM me. I'd also be more than happy to post the file for you, if you want to send it to me via Windows Messenger or something. Any help we can get on this issue from new system owners would be greatly appreciated.

Will the following help? From my custom vistax32 dv6000t, with bluetooth, 7400 geforce, 7200 core2duo
USB\VID_05CA&PID_1810&REV_0100&MI_00
USB\VID_05CA&PID_1810&MI_00 -
I just checked the IDs where you asked on my pre-loaded Vista Ultimate dv9000t. Here they are:
USB\VID_05CA&PID_1810&REV_0100&MI_00
USB\VID_05CA&PID_1810&MI_00
Not sure if this helps....................... -
This thread is now not required. The new drivers in the sticky thread re-flash the bios of the webcam so the Hardware ID gets changed to one that works with Vista. Thanks Jade for sending the link.
P.S I went to Harvey Norman (australia's equivalent of Best Buy) and looked at 15 different HP machines with Vista pre-loaded. Not one had the hardware ID above. It seems they need to be re-flashed to work with Vista. -
I've a DV6058CL running Vista Ultimate 64-bit
It also has the webcam listed under the DeviceID as:
USB\VID_05CA&PID_1870&REV_0100
Updating the bios unfortunatly did not change the device ID.
Update 2/25:
I kept experementing with this and discovered that you indded have to Uninstall the old drivers before you ran bios update included with the webcamera package. Rather odd, but the old drivers would not allow it to update properly.
At any rate, once uninstalling the camera AND removing the drivers allowed the installation to proceed properly. Camera works now! Just FYI to anyone else.
Owners of new notebooks (preloaded with Vista) please help!
