Hi everyone. I need some advice. I'm looking to upgrade the CPU in my DV4 and have 2 questions.
1. Will the p7350 work in this machine? Seems like it should, only difference being the FSB is 1066MHZ as opposed to the T5800 which is 800mhz.
2. Has anyone actually taken their keyboard out? I'm a well seasoned tech and have repaired many laptops and even after following the repair manual from HP, I can't get the keyboard to come out.

After a 2nd look at it, i found HP had glued (double sided tape) the keyboard down and that's why it wouldn't break free.
-
yes it will... Dv4 has a PM45 chipset which supports 1066MHz processors.... but i would recommend a T9400 CPU uprgade at least..
-
I'm going for the Lower TDP and ULV cpu's are too expensive to purchase.
-
u cannot use ULV CPU's so if u want low TDP ones , P series is best... i recommend P9500 at least... P9600/P9700 is also great..
-
I picked up a new OEM P7350 for 30$, couldn't justify the $$$ for a P8xxx or P9xxx CPU althought i'd like one since I could use virtualization occasionally.

lol.. where did u get it so cheap...

I can't reveal my sources....

so the swap went without a hitch, unit posts fine, bios detects it (i have newest bios installed) Now my machine won't boot, freezes up loading windows and i tried running the repair and it freezes before it loads that too. I have Windows 7 installed. I tried booting off a CD and it does not get to the install options screen either, freezes at about the same spot...very frustrating.

*sigh* They get seemingly cheaper by the year @ making notebooks too... -
After the 3rd time of taking it apart and triple checking all the connections, it came up fine. Not sure where i messed up but finally all working. Thank goodness! I was about to toss it out the window!

^ respect. i am too impatient for (troubleshooting) a project like this.
50 screws into taking it apart, i'd be on the hp site piecing together a quad core dv8t with 8gb ram and 1gb video and 1tb of disk space -
After a bit of use, I'm amazed how much better the P7350 is compared to the T5850 that was in this. The fan NEVER comes on anymore and the CPU runs cold. If i run it at 100% on both cores, it barely breaks 60C and idles in the 30s and occasionally 20s which is pretty cool for a laptop. I also installed an internal HDTV tuner card and jack while i was in there too, very cool.

Very interesting results - I was not aware the difference was that great between the T-series C2Ds and the P-series. I have a P8400 in my dv5t and even under full load (gets to about 60*C or so), the fan does not come on much at all. On the other hand, those with the top-end T9600 2.8GHz CPUs reported 90*C temps.
I can't imagine the performance difference would be too great between the T5800 and the P7350 but $30 is an unbelievable price for such a CPU.
P7350 DV4-1125NR upgrade?
