I know there is already a thread on the p8600 and the p8400 but i just was wondering if it was worth it for the upgrade. I just am thinking that getting the best processor possible is the best idea for it to last.

The P8600, I believe, consumes 10w less (25w) compared to the T9400 (35w), so while it is both 0.13GHz and 3MB L2 cache less, it seems worth it according to most people since it stays cooler thanks to its lower TDP, which saves more battery life. It depends on what you're trying to tackle. How much is the upgrade cost to the T9400? If it's too high it's not worth it if you don't plan to squeeze every bit of power from the CPU.

The P9500, however, has the same performance as the T9400 and still 10w less power consumption but more expensive. That's probably a better choice out of all 3.

But there'd be better performance with the T9400 because it has double the cache, plus my t9300 idles at 31c on days were the out side temp's at 20c no air con and I have the back lifted for better ventilation, I see guy's with DV5T which have a idle of 45c and they're running P8600, make what you want out of that?

if you want the best processor, i would go with the P9500 if isn't too expensive. it's has the performance of T9400 and the power consumption of the P8600.

if lasting is your only worry- don't. any of these processors will likely last longer than the useful life of the laptop.

    welcome to the forums!!!

Heat is going to be related to the model of laptop. It has less to do with the power the cpu consumes and more to do with the design of the heatsink and venting. I've found the larger 17 inch screen HP laptops to provide better cooling (more room in the case perhaps?) than the smaller 15 inch screen notebooks.

Definitely not, just get the P8400. You'll never notice a difference.
