I have a dv7 but at work there is a HP desktop that has this program (which came with the desktop when it was purchased last week).
    The program is really nice.

    Questions:
    1. Can I use this on my laptop?
    2. Can I download it from the HP site (I can't find it)?

Im guessing its not an HP program, but a program your company puts on their computers. Try googling the exact name seeing as there are thousands of "PC Doctors"

If the desktop is running XP then this looks like it (unfortunately not a download link, just info): Testing for Hardware Problems Using PC-Doctor - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

IMHO the app looks to be pretty useless, and i would definitely not recommend searching google for "PC doctor download" or anything like it - you will get TONS of garbage/spyware/malware/other bad stuff

Good apps for looking at component info include: CPU-Z, GPU-Z, SpeedFan, and Everest Ultimate

No it came from the factory installed. It is an HP program that was written by pc doctor (they do it for oems).

Actually the program is really nice does many hardware checks and seems very slick, and that was why I asked. We have checked 5 other Compaq and HP desktops here and a couple from people who have systems they bought at home and they all had the program.

It is located at start, all programs, PC Help & Tools, Hardware Diagnostic Tools
