PC Magazine's consumer reviews rate HP/Compaq near the bottom in terms of consumer satisfaction. People on this site seem to like HP better. Can anyone explain the difference? Thanks.

They've improved over the last year or so. I'd suspect that people are holding on to old ideas? I like HP better than Dell now, but I think that's because Dell has declined more than HP improvment.
HP is now the #1 seller of PC's (just beat out Dell recently). Anytime you are the market leader, you catch a lot of flak I guess. -
Their support could improve though but that won't happen.

My experience is that hp is doing a very good job.

Perhaps HP comes at the bottom because it does not bribe the magazine?

The difference between Compaq and HP is simple:
HP has just taken over Compaq, so now HP owns Compaq. Compaq notebooks are a little older. They also do not look as nice as most HP notebooks. Also, HP notebooks come with the option of getting a buit in mic and webcam. Overall HP notebooks are usually nicer and better, but Compaq notebooks are cheaper. -
The mag should of surveyed business customers with business notebooks.
