Hey guys, I got an HP dv5000 and I've had it for a lil over a year now, and recently it has been shutting off randomly. I think it is because it's overheating, but I'm not doing anything more than what I used to do on it. And it also shuts off while I am burning dvd's and sometimes cd's. What's the problem and how can I fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Yes it could possibly be overheating. Download HWmonitor here. Whats your processor and specs of your computer btw?
Report back with the temps you get when idling and when you put cpu load -
You can try some different things if you are overheating. You can try using CPUZ, speedfan, and hardware monitor to see how you are doing on temps.
Heat Solutions-
Low Invasive:
1)Buy laptop cooler powered via USB.
2)Prop up with grate or stand.
3)Cut down sleep/power utlities.
High Invasive:
1)Apply Arctic 5 to your CPU
2)Custom cut vent slits in your case. -
If its a heat issue, its most likely the fan/vents are just clogged with dust. It is a dv5000 after all.

I would recommend a nice shot of compressed air to all of the vents in the hopes of clearing them of dust.

Ok I ran HWMonitor, and this is what I got.
What do you mean when you say "Report back with the temps you get when idling and when you put cpu load" -
It just means let your computer stand still for a bit and record what the temps are, then play your favorite game or go online while listening to music, editing a photo, while playing a video minimized in the background, and take another bank of temperatures. This is one way to see what is going on. Based upon that, your temps look alright...but it still could be clogged fans, ...

If those are your temps when idling (leaving the computer doing nothing) then those are quite high. It should be around 45c or cooler since you only have a 1.6ghz.
Run something CPU intensive (like burning a CD) and see how high the temps go. If the cores go near 100c then your computer will automatically shutdown on its own -
clean your vents and buy a cooling pad
PC Randomly shuts off..
