I voted poor because I'm going to RMA it although it should have been the previous with RMA.

small imperfections: not fully flushed keyboard and trackpad. However I still dig this envy 14.
-
I voted great because the only issue I've noticed is some keyboard flex (not when typing though). The keyboard/touchpad are flush and there aren't any gaps. Nor is there any cpu whine or excessive fan noise. So, in short, I'm perfectly happy with my Envy 14. Hopefully everything still works great after I do a clean install.
-
very small imperfections. i would keep this laptop in a heartbeat but i have a better and cheaper one coming so it has to go back.

keyboard flex if you push too hard but that still classifies as great in my book.
metal looks like it's slightly separated from the palm rest below the touchpad.
but it's along the same spot as the bluetooth radio.
so.
screw it. radio is causing it. don't care. didn't notice til someone pointed it out. -
Mine is in excellent condition. There are a few minor concerns - namely a very slight raised edge on the bottom right corner of the keyboard, and a very slightly raised edge on the bottom left of the trackpad, but other than that it all fits together great. The construction quality is far better than any other laptop I've owned.
The keyboard flexes very slightly if I push VERY hard around the WASD keys and a bit near the LOP; keys, but I'd really have to be pushing hard enough to try to break the thing. Typing is extremely quick and comfortable, and I'd rate it amongst the best laptop keyboards I've used. -
USB ports are tight, hard to insert flash drives, not sure if it's supposed to be like that but that's really my only complaint so far.
-
-
I voted my envy in Poor condition only becuase I'll be returning it. My envy build was 99% perfect except a missing pixel which would have bugged me too much to not return even if I wasn't getting a better one in the mail soon.
-
No one is complaining about the heat dissipated ?
Is the Envy 14's cooling system THAT good? ( even during gaming? ) -
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
the envy maxed at 70/69 C for five runs of the intel burn test on standard.
yeah the cooling is pretty good -
mine runs silent and cool; no problems with it at all. The only annoying thing is the usb ports which was noted earlier.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah. USB is stiff on mine...think that's just general. It happened with the dm4ts as well

Is it odd that the only person to vote Horrible/Horrendous so far is user name edman688? His only post ever made was 2-3 months ago where he mentioned having a new Thinkpad T410S.
-
Something is a bit funky here. krnspadez with the worst laptop of all voted for "no RMA"
-
85% approval rating, seems pretty solid from the small pool of respondents so far. This relieves some of my fears after reading a few posts in the owners lounge.

Or are you hoping that by voting you'll get a perfect unit? -
I voted poor, I was having problems with my WiFi (a hardware issue) which I fixed by banging on my computer a bit. Everything else though is/was perfect, but returning it because I'm getting a cheaper/better one with an SSD.
Oh...I forgot to say that my CPU is whining, which isn't too annoying..... -

-
He probably means the second Envy 14 he ordered once BCB came up...
Glad to see most people are satisfied with theirs... Once I get mine on monday/tuesday I'll vote -
Hoping I can click the first bubble "Great/Perfect Condition - No RMA or Return in sight."
-
i voted perfect but i did notice a small bit of that yellow tarnishing on the body like some others have seen
its really small though, otherwise unnoticeable, so w/e -
If any current E14 owner could make a good quality in depth video review, i'd appreciate it very much.
-
I voted minor defect/no RMA.
My kb tray is slightly raised on the left side.
A couple of spot of the yellow residue.
Switchable graphics locked once but has worked the 4 times in a row since that first try.
I don't consider the kb flex a defect as almost every laptop you buy has it. Granted it's not expected out of a Envy. I'd much rather keep mine than buy something that the whole chassis flexes on. For those that got a horrible example shipped to them I don't blame you for RMA'ing though. -
bumping because this thread needs to stay alive. Loud mouths are often seen as the majority when they arent.

I got mine, and when I first booted up, there was this ~2 inch weird spot of discoloration
right after the whole "set up your HP laptop" bit finished though, it went away
Super quiet fans, no whining (as of yet, knock on wood) and no heating issues
Barely any flex (unless I press hard, and it still doesn't really bother me) , and it just feels solid
I love this computer -
mine was perfect!!!
still working on the touch pad tho -
sigh.. not only the drive but it's also poping up on the bottom left corner too :[

That is unacceptable, nnmou. Are you going to RMA?
My first Envy had a large gap on the right side of the trackpad and also a fine gap below the trackpad. The bottom was flexible. I'm not sure if it's suppose to be like that. It felt fragile. I didn't turn it on.
My second Envy (the one I will keep) is coming soon. I will answer the poll then. -
of course I'll RMA it
just another few weeks of waiting :[ -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
man...it must have melted somehow but wow.
-
Mine came in pretty good shape. The P area keyboard flex is the only real issue. I'll post some comparisons pics with the envy 15 soon.
Question: Are your screens a bit wobbly? Not a ton, but some when you move the laptop? -
Mine is DOA. Just flashes power button and red F10 button. Nothing else. Definate RMA
-
-
Just got my Envy 14 today.
Everything stock except 1 Stick of 4GB RAM.
I love it! build quality is excellent. I couldn't be happier and I am glad I bought this instead of the 4820TG. Screen is a beauty!
There is some flex in the keyboard but that doesn't really bother me at all. My only small gripe is that the touchpad buttons are very stiff and part of the touchpad. I have a hard time right clicking. This said, I will use a mouse whenever possible, but a touchpad is important at times.
Still this is a great laptop! Very happy with mine. -

I understand these things are manufactured/assembled in China which speaks for itself, however it appears that these machines do not even go through any kind of quality control.
17% of the polled machines are defective or poorly built to the point of RMA. This is unacceptable in my opinion. These are not $300 Compaqs.
How hard is it to hire a couple of chinese workers at $2 an hour to look over the machine with a checklist and power it on before throwing it in the box and calling it a premium $1500 laptop. -

I'm VERY worried about my Envy tomorrow. I REALLY do not want a lemon! I don't care about CPU whining, flex, or scratches everywhere. hell, my 6 year old laptop has all those problems and I never thought they were even problems!!! It wasn't until you guys started pointing these tiny problems that I began to become more critical in laptop quality. I'm just extremely worried of getting a rotten lemon
-
Most likely your machine will arrive tomorrow and you will have a great experience with it.
Those with problems tend to be the loudest on these forums. -
-
In the small chance that there is something wrong with your laptop come back to this forum and let us know. We will help you out.
btw: I've used FedEx over 50 times and they have never damaged anything. -
