Hmmmm no one knows about this? In the presario 2200 M&S GUIDE product description it says options 30,40 and 60GB. So it looks like 120GB isn't an option?

Some of the older systems have motherboards and controller cards that cannot accept HDD's over a certain size. It's been a year and a half since I researched this to make sure my old compaq R4000 could handle a 120 gig so I can't be sure what the specifics are on the issue. Seems to me it's the controller cards in some of the older laptops but I could be wrong.

I know the 24bit LBA limit is 137gb. So it might be a chipset limitation as dkwhite said

Yes I have F.16 BIOS It's the latest for this model 2005 according to HP downloads. I think your right it's a chipset limitation.

Yes but it doesn't recognize the original 40GB HHD I had running in it. So it must be some other problem.

I must have posted while you were posting. I don't recall that post.

Anyways, have you went into the bios and made sure the boot order was correct?

Search the BIOS and check for any familiarization with the new or old hard drive.

It might need to be partitioned. Maybe something with the jumpers or something became defective with installation.

Well your not going to believe this one, but maybe someone will. I decided to replace the top cover for a better one while I wait for the hard drive connector. Plus I upgraded the CPU from a 1.5GHz Celeron to a Intel Pentium M 725 1.6GHz L2 Cache 2MB. So while I was in there I reset the CMOS. I thought what the heck I'll try the hard drive with the faulty connector. Well when I booted it up I went into BIOS and blow me down I now have a HP COMPAQ NX903O but the color on the screen is red instead of black. Then I move along to tools and hit the hard drive test and guess what it recognizes the hard drive. Then I save, out I go from BIOS, XP starts up, everythings fine except the red tinge in the screen all the other color are there but black has changed to red. So I'm outa the black and into the red so to speak. I have never had a Computer change it's model or color before by upgrading a CPU.

Take out the battery pack and AC then try reseting the CMOS by holding the power button for 30 seconds. If that doesnt work, take out the actual CMOS battery

That is weird, seeing as the NX903O doesnt even belong in the same family.

I upgraded my presario from a Celerom M to a Pentium M 725 aswell. I dont remember this problem happening.

Are you sure your battery pack wasnt in when you did these upgrades?

Yes the NX9030 is from the same family they even look similar check out the 2200 M&S GUIDE. I'm thinking the CPU came out of a NX9030 I purchased it on Ebay. I'll ask the seller and let you know, strange though. The red screen, well might be a faulty LCD cable the connector to the Systemboard has a cluster of contacts at one that have gone green like copper sulphate tried cleaning them with a alcohol swab. I go through the process inverter, cable, and backlight. Another thing is I thought I'd try the 120GB

HDD again and it didn't recognize it again and as before It doesn't recognize any HHDD now. So back in I go to reset the CMOS again. I'll try holding the power button first flipfire.
