alright so i just got a brand new HP HDX16t, i love everything about the computer ... the webcam is also nice but ive just run into 1 problem

on my old laptop, a lenovo, if i wanted to change the settings of the webcam to lets say black and white, or low light mode, all i would have to do was go into the properties and change it ... then for whatever webcam application i used whether it was facebook video, ooVoo, skype, the webcam would be black and white in low light mode.

but with this HP webcam ... everytime i open up a webcam application the HP mediasmart webcam opens up, and then all my settings from the last time are gone. and when i try to leave a facebook video the mediasmart webcam application doesnt even open up.

BASICALLY, what i am asking is... is there any way to save the webcam preferences on this HP webcam so it is the same for whatever application i use ???

P.S. i posted this on the hdx16t lounge as well.. sorry for the double post but its just a problem i want to fix asap !!

I find that my webcam settings only carry over if I use the advanced settings in HP Mediasmart. Open HP Mediasmart and slick on "Settings". Then while you are in the settings window click on the "display" tab, then click on "advanced settings" under that. A windows titled "HP Webcam Properties" should show up. I find that these settings are the only ones that carry over to other applications. If you want to use black and white for example, turn the saturation slider all the way down. I have a dv7t, but I'm guessing the procedure should be similar on an HDX.

thanks for the reply boone, damn besides that 1 little feature everything else is fine ... which they would make it simple and not have that hp mediasmart thing pop up every time you use a webcam application lol and just open it up when you want to

I have the same problem, except everytime MediaSmart pops up it makes the video on my end freeze up and the person that I am talking too suddenly becomes extremely digital to the point that I may as not even have video on because all I can make out are a bunch of colorful pixels! The worst part is that it doesn't get better after I close it and it continually pops back up... even when I only shrink it down! UGH!!!

Is there any way to simply disable it altogether? I don't want it and will never use it so I'd rather just have it gone.

I am SO FRUSTRATED as I currently live in Japan and this is the only way that I am able to see my family back in the states. It's even more important because I have toddlers who are growing far too fast and I want my family in their lives. PLEASE HELP!!!

Uninstall the HP Mediasmart Webcam software. The camera uses a Microsoft driver and should work fine by itself.
