So I bought Skyrim on black friday for my ps3 but won't be able to play it till I go home. I recently found out that the ps3 version of the game has a game-breaking bug that the longer you play the worse the frame rate gets and they even said it's impossible to fix.

So long story short, I think I'll return the copy and get it for my laptop. The only thing is.. I'm paranoid about using my laptop on a graphic intensive game for a long time.

Couple of questions, should I still be paranoid? I use the laptop for school work and such so if something were to happen I would lose a lot of stuff.

Also, does anyone here constantly have their laptop plugged into a tv. I bought it for the ps3 to be able to play the game on a TV but if I get it for this laptop I would just use an HDMI plug with my tv. Does this decrease/weaken the laptop for extended use?

What are some options to back up my laptop's files and such?

    Thanks in advanced.

First of all what are your specs, so that we may see if you can run the game.
And as far as gaming goes, as long as you make sure that the laptop doesn't overheat, it should be fine. And keep in mind that all computers have this issue, but since laptops are slim and don't have large fans, they need more care (360, PS3 overheat and the RROD, YLOD is the result).
The more you use a laptop (especially on the go) the weaker the joints get, as vibrations cause the screws to come loose. But if you're playing stationary and for long periods of time, just make sure to keep it cool
Now on that regard I need to know what notebook you have so that I can try and help (specs).

By the way, I really feel bad for your PS3 issues.

Thanks for the response.. yeah, it's a shame about the ps3 issue with the game.
    Anyway, I got a DV6qe with:
    Intel i7 2.00GHz
    8gig Ram
    Radeon HD 6770m
In fact, looking at your sig, I got the same exact laptop as you.

Have you played a game like Skyrim with it?
I'll be keeping the laptop stationary so I guess I'll just have to be concerned with overheating. Any secrets that I wouldn't know about that could help prevent it from overheating?

    Thanks again.

    Wonderful!
Obviously, you being in this forum would likely mean that you had the same notebook, just wanted to make sure.
Now can I ask you why you chose to get Skyrim on PS3 in first place? :)D )
I don't have anything against consoles (in fact some games I prefer on them, but with all the Mods and graphics options on PC, Skyrim is definitely much much better on PC).
It plays wonderfully on my laptop, doesn't get too hot (but if you've never gamed before on the DV6tQE, then you might think it is a bit hot).
As long as you have it properly ventilated, it should be fine for extended use. If you feel uncomfortable with heat, you can always use HP Coolsense and set it to Quite mode, where it stops the processor from using TurboBoost, which has a very small impact in Skyrim.
Simply put - your Laptop is awesome to play it. And you can even play with a 360 or PS3 controller if you prefer...
Here is a link I posted with all that information (message me for any help):

And that was my first time posting a link to a specific comment, lemme know if it doesn't work.

You can turn everything us (including all reflections and Ultra textures in Advanced) but the AA and Multisampling might make it have a low FPS, so turn them down or off...
It's hard to me to say exactly cause I use a lot of MODs so I have to turn them (filtering) down to play at high FPS's, I can't remember how it ran with them on when I was using Vanilla Skyrim, fresh install.

How can I rep you? haha
But yeah, I chose PS3 because I like the idea of the comfort of sitting on my couch with the big screen. I didn't really want to use my laptop for gaming because of said worries but honestly, I think I'll give it a try. The mods for skyrim only further make me want to get it for pc so I'm pretty much sold.

I'll probably end up using my ps3 controller so I don't have to worry about a wireless mouse/keyboard.

But thinking about it I have one more concern.. I know you get decent framerates on our laptop screen but would changing it up to fit on a 32" or higher TV affect the framerate a lot?

Assuming that your TV supports 1080p, it will cause a good drop in FPS. Here is a great site for looking up mobile card performance, as you can see with Skyrim at Ultra (which I assume is all high 1080p) it gets choppy.
But if you choose 720p or something slightly higher (don't go above native res of TV is TV is native 1366x768 or 1440x900) it should be fine.
And the PS3 controller works flawlessly.
So it all depends on Resolution...
