Recently, the large plastic drive bay cover (screwless, with plastic clips) for the bottom of my DV7T-6100 was becoming loose at one of the corners. Since it is under warranty, I contacted HP to request a replacement part.

After several calls, and escalations, none of the HP CSRs were able to locate the part number in the system, and could not help me replace the cover.

Anyone know the part number for the plastic drive bay cover?

Have you gone to HP Part Surfer website and entered in the machine product number to look for yourself to see if there is anything on the list that sounds like it?

It's possible that it's not available separately, and maybe it's only available as part of the entire bottom housing of the machine. I dont know for sure, just a guess. If that's the case, the whole machine would have to be disassembled, right down to the motherboard being taken out so that the entire bottom plastic base assembly could be replaced. Again, I dont know for sure, but I've seen instances in the past where things like that happened.

Hopefully someone who knows for sure will reply :)

Yes, I searched the Part Surfer prior to posting this thread, and was not able to locate the part.

Has anyone successfully replaced their drive bay cover?

From the link provided by HT WingNut, the manual shows the part you need on page 24 ( item# 25) and a complete description on page 32 ( (25) Service cover — available in the Plastics Kit, spare part number 641305-001)) However, when I plug Part 641305-001 into HP PartSurfer, I get the following message: Part 641305-001 is no longer supplied. Please order the replacement, 665604-001. I then put in the new suggested part number and get a good number but it won't let me add it to the cart for purchase. It says it's blocked so maybe HP has to place the order for you. So to answer your original question, I think you need part 665604-001.

    Good luck...

Thanks very much for your help. I'll call HP support and try this part number.

+rep for both of you, thanks!

Update: 665604-001 is the correct part number for the drive bay cover. HP mailed me the replacement this week, under warranty. Thanks again!

Hey good find. I skimmed and didn't find the detail in the part. I guess you did a bit more investigation!

Teamwork! I didn't have the link you provided. I always try to give more than I take from these forums and it always pays off for someone. If we all didn't give something, there would be nothing to take. I've seen forums just dry up because there was no useful information and no one person can provide all the answers.
