    hi guys,

I just got my HP DV5t (2.26GHz, 3GB RAM, 320 GB HD) along with the recovery CD. It has 2 partitions (as usual)- C: & the recovery data partition.

I wanted to know that since the HD capacity is huge, do I really need to partition the hard drive for optimal performance ? I mean, say after 6 months I have 150 GB of data and then I have to (may be due to some system issue) have to partition the drive then I am screwed right ? I have a 160 GB external drive but the point is I do not want to fiddle with the system once I start piling on the data. So better to do all the formatting and partitioning right away (if at all). I do not have a problem keeping the recovery drive as such but wanted to know whether the dividing the C:\ into say 4 partitions will be helpfull..
If it is recommended, then my next post would be on how to go about doing it.. lol.. have read few posts on this and it was quite heavy stuff for me!!
    Please advice.

    many thanks,
    Raj

It wouldn't help any performance wise or stability wise, but I suppose you could use it for organization. I think recovery partitions are kinda stupid, because it is so much easier to use an external hard drive or DVD for recovery.

Personally, I would put all of my applications and documents along with other stuffs of the sort separate from my C:/ drive for organization and ease of use. But I don't think that it will help you at all.

I think that recovery parition contains the recovery disk information, such as the OEM (HP) Windows Vista release and drivers.

I think it comes down to personal preference whether you partition or not. I like having one big partition so that I won't have the problem of running out of space on one partition while the others still have extra space.

He said that he got a recovery CD so that might not be the case. Regardless, he should move it onto a portable hard drive
