    Hi Everyone,

I have a friends laptop to check out which is not operating and I would like some suggestions before I get into it.

Unit is charged and when pressing the power button a few lights including the volume intensity light up and after 15 seconds the caps and scroll lights flash. The hd sounds like it is running but not being accessed. Nothing on the screen just black, no bios run-up or anything.

Has anyone heard of this type of failure before or can anyone suggest what to do first. I have a good background in electronics but not so much computers but have repaired quite a few computers/laptops with many different problems and would like to get into this for a friend and see what I can do. Any help will be greatly appreciated, many thanks. ............Dave

I've heard of an emergency switch on procedure for this type of problem, something about removing the battery but unable to find an explanation of how to proceed. Any help please, thanks.
