My quest for a budget gaming rig has ended. With a DV5.

It's pretty nicely specced out, but I won't go over the details, since the GPU and processor have nothing to do with it.

It comes with 4GB of DDR2 RAM, but it's only running a 32-bit OS (or so the box says). Does that mean that only 3GB will be used?

Oh, and if it does have a 64-bit version of Vista, there's another problem. My backup for my old system was for Vista 32-bit. Will this cause problems on a 64-bit OS? Microsoft support says that some models may face problems when running 32-bit backups on a 64-bit OS, but is this one of them?

yes, you will only be able to use 3-3.2Gb of your RAM with a 32bit OS.

not quite sure what you mean with "backup".... backup program? backed up hard drive image?

Your backup files will be fine. 32/64 bit has no effect on that.

    Thanks :D

That sure takes a lot off my mind. I'll upgrade to 64-bit in a few months, and load up a backup of my files.
