I thought I'll post this here to see if any body seen this one.

A week ago I saw this at Best Buy here in Virginia Beach. Just look at it briefly coz lots of people browsing. I remember the model number and wrote it down so I can research it. It has the most beautiful finish that I've ever seen before as far as HP notebook is concern. Bronze and dark gray with inlay graphic on a hi gloss. Been researching this and even HP customer support can not help. They have the dv6780ca & se but not on the finish that I describe. Best Buy web site does not have anything on it. I know it has Intel Processor, just can not remember which one or if its on Santa Rosa flat form.

Any one has any information on this?

It should be the dv6780se Special edition laptop...
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...Y?skuId=8669504&type=product&id=1196470766824

or if it is bronze on the inside as well then probably the 14" dv25xx sepcial edition model. AFAIK the 15" models are only available with the regular radiance or white influx finish or the dark brown finish I linked above.

BTW, pretty much any laptop released in the past year based on the Core 2 Duo will have the Santa Rosa platform.

Damn that dv6780se looks real nice. Why didn't they put a better processor and at least an HD-DVD @ that price. They also should have put the full 4gb instead 3gb.

    miner,

Thanks for the Best Buy link. That is the notebook that I was researching. So it was an SE after all, must be a new color for this year and HP site is not updated yet. It is a very handsome laptop.

    Regards.

Yeah, I think it looks better in person. The picture doesnt seem to do much justice. This might be a Best buy only exclusive considering they have done such deals in the past with several special edition laptops and might not make it as custmizable model atleast for now.

Thats the "regular" special edition. The dv6780se is a "special" special edition :p

I agree with you 100%, must see it in person to appreciate the beauty of this laptop. The glossy candy cane candy comes to mind when i saw it and it almost taste like it, with nice different colors and stripes. Too bad it is not available to customize it at HP site. I believe you are right as it is a Best Buy exclusive preconfigured. I sure like to have an Intel T7500 with 800 FSB.
I will inquire again at HP CS if I could configure it at that color and attach the Best Buy link so they know its existence.

wow! I am completely blown away by the pictures of this laptop. What an amazing look. I can't wait to see one at a store. Does anyone know of a link to a review of this model (or a very close cousin to this one)? I've googled but haven't found a good write up yet.

I was sold on a dell but now I think I'll hold back and give this hp a chance.

Uhm... A couple of weeks ago I also noticed this laptop at BestBuy. I thought it was really beautiful, but the processor doesn't make it worth the price.

I also tried to see if I could customize one on the HP website and couldn't find it...

I've got an intel core duo T7500 processor with 2.20GHz 4MB cache on my hand... How can I find out whether the HP DV6780SE would support it (besides calling HP directly, which I'd like to avoid)? I'm not new to this kind of experiments, and they don't always end well... Wouldn't wanna screw up a brand new notebook...

Also, there seem to be hard disk problems associated with this particular model. Can anybody shed some light on this? People are complaining about freezes and crashes within one month from purchase, and HP doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to customer service... Could it be the 1.67GHz processor and the 250GB HD are not exactly the best match?

HP site is very slow to update it and always advertising some old models that are already hard to find in any where.

This one is quite nice , I was almost buying it at a mall HP expo 08 in Bangkok , this model is super cute and in my area comes with either T7500 or T9300, 4gb , 4965AGN, 320gb hdd, NV8400 GS with 256gb GDDR3.

But this model was about 200Us more expensive than my DV2761, so I went for the 14.1 but now regretting about my decision, I like 15.4 better and it has better keyboard than mine IMO.

There is also another SE version with white color lid, is also nice.

Make sure to avoid the HD-DVD models , sometimes some pre-configured special editions have it.
