I just had my harddrive fail on my DV7 4060us and replaced it. After reinstalling from recovery discs that I made just in time, I noticed that HP uses 4 primary partitions to install a single OS... Really HP??? were they thinking???

Now I'm unable to create any new partitions unless I delete an existing one. I have a "system", "windows", "recovery" and "tools" partition. I like having the HP instant on GUI, so I didn't want to install windows from a microsoft disc and lose that, but it's beyond annoying that they used all primary partitions to set this system up.

I'm considering deleting one of the partitions, but not sure if that will effect usage of the system or not. Does anyone know for sure what the "tools" partition is used for, and if I move the contents to logical partition with the same drive letter, will it work the same? I'm guessing the recovery partition needs to be a primary, but what impact would there be if I remove it?

It also looks like I have room to install a second drive, I'd just need a cable and caddy. These are available on ebay, so I might go this route unless anyone warn me of any problems I might have doing this.
