Hi everybody, I bought my DV7 (see below) two months ago and since then I have been ramdonly experiencing problems at shutdown. It seems that Vista shuts down normally but then the screen goes black but the quick launch buttons remain on, at last I have to manually shutdown by holding the power button.

This happens ramdonly and even I have tried to find a pattern I haven´t been able to do so. I have googled my problem and other people seem to be experiencing the same problem but haven´t found a solution. HP support run out of ideas (update BIOS,etc...) and told me to format and install everything again but I don´t think it will solve the problem.

Any help will be welcome. Thanks

    Pavilion DV7 1080-ES:

    - Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26 GHz

    - GeGorce 9600M GT

    - 4 GB RAM

    - Vista Home Premium

I have tried with no result. Since it´s a random problem you may think everything is going right but then after many succesfull shutdowns it hangs again. I´m running out of ideas. Hardware problem maybe?

You try con pan >Administrative tools>computer management>event viewer and see if anything is being logged for this issue at the time the system hangs.

I'm not sure but this may help. If you don't have the Logitech G15 keyboard then try doing it with other items with the same name (HID Keyboard or HID-Mouse or whatever) and change it to HID-Compliant device.

It really sounds like vista isn't exiting all the processes to allow your system to shut down. I've used a program called TuneUp Utilities ( http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities/) to repair shut down issues in the past. I've also encountered several problems with sidebar gadgets not allowing my pc to shut down properly, so you could give that a look.
