    A bit of a tech support question here. I've got an older HP zd8000. P4 3ghz, Radeon M x600, 2gig ram.

I was playing TF2 online yesterday, when a yellow, flickering line appeared in the center of the screen, stretching from bottom to top. At first I thought it was a server side error, but became concerned when the line became solid after a few moments or so. Pressing my hand to the computer, it was running quite hot, and so I turned off the notebook and put it in front of a large box fan to let it cool down. Today, I cleaned out the heatsinks, blowing quite a bit of dust and debris out of them. The computer is running significantly cooler now, and the fans aren't working too hard. After booting, the computer ran alright for about five minutes, but after that the line flickered back into existance again, despite the cooler temperatures.

I can only conclude that the overheat has already caused permanent damage to the videocard.

So, my question to the kind readers is: Is there anything else I could try to correct the display, or another potential cause of this problem that I've overlooked?

If the videocard has indeed been damaged in an irreparable way, is it possible to remove the old card and replace it with a new one?

    Your assistance is appreciated.

I've had a ZD8000, it does get hot, i had to clean it out every week, and unfortunately the graphics card on this model will fail due to overheating.

It does sound like the graphics card thats fried, and that means a change of motherboard, you'll find them on ebay.

But just to make sure, plug the laptop into a monitor, if the same lines are there it means the graphics card is faulty, if not it could be the LCD Panel or the LCD cable.
