I have a hp pavilion dv2000 and the hard drive runs really hot all of the time, it stays at 51 degrees C, it has been as high as 59 when the bottom of the notebook is covered, bearing in mind the FUJITSU MHV2120BH PL [111.79GB] is rated at max of 55 degrees? does anybody else have problems with there hp harddrive?

Mine is a 13.4 inch notebook! the weird thing is that the cpu sometimes runs cooler than the harddrive,

And how can a harddrive get so hot, does it just gather heat from other components, or is it naturaly hot, but i dont know how it does this??

That is not really hot. What you need to do to keep the laptop cool is make sure all the air vents are clear of dust. Dust builds up heat

dv2000's comes with a 14.1" screen to begin with.

Fujitsu harddrives run warm/hot, maybe cause their cheap. Turning off some programs and removing bloatware will put less load on the harddrive making it run cooler

The highest mine has ever reached is 55 at heavy loads and i do have a fujitsu drive aswell. Ive done a clean install and made sure no background programs run without me knowing like windows indexing and defrag.

Buy a different brand like Seagate if you want a really cool drive

Year i meant a 14.1, just couldn’t remember the size, or be bothered to measure it! I would say that 51 degrees is hot as my cpu runs at those temperature, why should a hard drive run so hot, + on notebook control it says that the harddrive is running hot, not the correct temp a harddrive should run at!

dells run at 32 degrees and i believe they use seagate, having a hot drive makes them unreliable and and they have a lower life!, some can seize up to ive heard!

I thought it could have something to to with maybe not the drive, but the hp notebook and the fact it cannot cool down the drive, do some hard drives on notebooks have heat rods connected to them to transfer heat to the heat sink!

Could also be that you're in performance mode and the HD is churning all the time. Do you have the same temp if you're on saver mode? The best way of reducing heat is ventilation.

I think when they built this notebook, they diddent think about keeping the harddrive cool!, on the dells the harddrive has a cooling gap bottom and top not just packed in the notebook! its normal for all hp notebooks like mine to have the left wrist pad hot, that is because of the hard drive's heat!
