    Hi,

I bought a new hp pavilion dv5-1040, three days ago. The battery came with 17% of wear level. I made three full discharges/charges to calibrate it but now it increased to 20% of wear level.

Can I do anything to fix it or should I go to the place where I bought to ask for another battery?

If you did something wrong you can always try replace it at the store.

I checked with Notebook Hardware Control and with Notebook BatteryInfo. They both give me the same value.

The first thing I did after turning on the laptop for the first time was install and check the NHC and it already was with 17% of wear level

You won't believe it but 3 days after I had bought the notebook in my sig(almost 2 yrs ago), the wear level was 20%. Of course I was quite busy then and didn't care to report to HP. Now it is at 54% wear level. I check the level using Everest Ultimate Edition.
