    Hi,

I am buying a hp pavilion dv6226tx. It comes with pre-loaded vista. The following are my questions. I googled for solutions but didnt find anything dv6226tx specific.

    1) How is linux support - drivers in particular? I use Fedora Core6.
    2) Will dual-booting be a problem?
    3) It comes with pre-loaded vista. No CDs. I have to make my own recovery cd. Will I be able to completely format and use recovery cd to install vista back again. I have never used recovery cds before and my concepts here are vague.

The above three questions will be important for me in making my descion whether to buy or not.

    Thanks!
    Kunal

The recovery cd's include all the bloatware the unit ships with, and it is not partition friendly (meaning it will overwrite any linux partitions you have and will revert the notebook to its factory state).

Your best bet is to manually remove the bloatware and then use a program like partition magic to resize the vista partition to make enough freespace for linux to make its partitions in.

The other option is to obtain a Vista CD that is compatible with your HP cd key and install a fresh copy of vista and linux.

Dual booting shouldn't be a problem. I can't say for sure about hardware compatibility with linux though. I'm getting my DV6000Z family notebook tomorrow, so I'm going in blind too (I want to install XP and Ubuntu).

    Good luck!

    Thanks!

In case somebody finds it helpful, I have found two links:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00814731
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?cc=us&docname=bph07143&lc=en

You mean after System Restore, this is how I repartition to install linux, right?

Is there a vista version that will work with the hp product key (which i assume is on the bottom of the laptop) so that we can do a clean install and activation?
