I just purchased the pavilion dv6233se and worked fine right away. After the first day of use, I noticed the fan would kick in after a minutes use and run for about 20 seconds and then stop. But, roughly every minute and a half, the fan kicks in and runs fairly loud for a good 20 seconds and stops. Anyone else experiences these same problems or this is normal for the fan to be so annoying.

Had the same sort of issue with the nx7300 i picked up in January. Had to send it in twice before they fixed it. According to the cryptic diagnostic receipt, there was a problem with the "lcd component assembly (cables)". Don't know what that exactly means, but the problem is thankfully gone as of now. Ask for the supervisor at the tech support and make sure the issue is repaired the first time you send it in.

I am having the same problem after just two days of purchase. Anyway, I chatted with their online tech support today and they are shipping me the box to return the product to send it to their service center. They promise to repair it within 3-5 days. Quite quick response..Let's see how they fix it..

that's a surprisingly quick response. let us know what happens. my compaq v3000t just came today, and it has sporadic and often fan activity. talked to CS but they kept trying to insist that this was normal. i told him that i owned a 3000z previous to this and that the fan rarely ever came on, and he said that well, vista is different so it will make a difference. anyway, bottom line, i know it cant be normal, since fan still comes on with gusto even during idle, no programs running. i'm determined to get it resolved.

I was instructed to do the following to solve the fan problem. This has helped me, but the fan is still quite frequent. I don't know whether to send my new unit to them or just live with it. It is not that bothering. In fact, it may be good to keep the system cool frequently instead of running the fan for a long time when the system is really hot...

Anyway, below is their approach to this problem.

    Step 1 : Power Drain

    1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
    2. Remove the Battery.
    3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
    4. Reconnect the AC adapter.
    5. Turn on the Notebook power.

    Step 2: Reinstall Power Management.

    1. Click Start, select Control Panel, and then choose Performance and
    Maintenance.
    2. Click the System icon to open the System properties window.
    3. Select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
    4. Click the plus (+) sign next to System Devices.
    5. Right-click the ACPI Fixed Feature button and select Uninstall.
    6. Restart the system. On restarting the system, Windows will
automatically detect and install Power Management on the computer.

Step 3 : Update the bios from below link.

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34501-35000/sp34601.exe

Please copy the entire URL and paste it in a new window of Internet
Explorer. Then open the link from there.

Step 4 : After updating your Notebook BIOS, I suggest to Clean the
Cooling Vents. Depending on your model, vents can be found on the side,
back, and/or bottom of your notebook PC. These vents allow air to flow
through the PC and keep it cool. Buildup inside these vents impedes the
cooling process. Purchase a can of compressed air (available at most
computer retailers) and blow them out.

    hope this helps...
