Good Day/Night/Afternoon all,
I recently received a DV6700 CTO which replaced a DV2000t CTO which HP couldn't fix and I have their ADP plan.
My new 6700 has:
Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 (2.10 GHz)
2GB of Ram
GeForce 8400M GS (driver Ver. 7.15.11.6743)
250 GB HDD
HP Firmware F.58 (had F.57 before I updated it today)
Anyways, roughly three weeks after receiving the new replacement laptop I found it shut off in the morning. I normally left it powered up and let it turn its display off after 20mins while plugged into the AC cable. I powered the system up and was prompted with Windows stating the OS didn't shut down properly. I originally thought it might have been a MS update snafu (like those don't happen, right?). Then the laptop did it the next morning. So I started to worry and started reading threads here.
I used HardWare Monitor to grab the following temps as I tried to max the system out by running two VLC windows, chatting on Skype with Video, and doing the "windows-key+ Tab" switch thing. (however these are only after i did the firmware upgrade)
ACPI 91C 76C 96C
Core0 84C 68C 88C
Core1 85C 69C 91C
8400M GS 80C 75C 82C
Do any of the above temps raise concern. The are in the format (current temp, lowest temp, and highest temp)
I normally saw my laptop shut off roughly an hour after plugging it back to AC power from being on Battery power. Which I found odd as I would think the fan would work better on AC power.
Speaking of the fan. I have never heard it during power up or during operation. But I am sure I am wrong as During those first three weeks I left the laptop powered up for a week at a time.
So would you please assist me in knowing if I have a overheating issue. Also, I am willing to reload the laptop with Vista 32-bit if the drivers and such are better in the 32 bit environment. I have noticed a lot in the task manager using the 32bit emulator.
Frustrated with HP Systems,

I just found my system fan in the upper left frozen or stuck. I used a paperclip to push on it and then it started right up. Now I am getting much nicer heat results. I will keep an eye on my fan to see if it does it again. But any additional thoughts on your end will be helpful.

You should use a can of compressed air, and blast it into the fan to clear out any dust. Doing this every month or so ensures that your fans won't stop or slow down again.
