I just ordered HP Pavilion dv6799ea Special Edition (Core 2 Duo T8100) directly from HP UK online store. Specification at HP website

I was searching for a reasonably priced laptop for my creative works (mainly 2D and rarely 3D and video editing) then found this one. I wasn't sure about compatibility of current dv6700 chasis and new 45nm T8100 processor, and rather said to be entry level GeForce 8400M GS performance, I thought buying a laptop is now or never affair, so I went for it. After 10% discount & free shipping code "HPSPLDIS" applied and Quidco's 5% cash back made it roughly £680 or so in total.

I saw a review on dv6700t in this site, but no review for this particular model has been up yet (might be never?), so whether my dicision was right or not is unknown. (I was looking at Dell XPS 1330 & 1530 as well)

HP said it will take about two weeks till I get one in hand. This anticipation is killing me. cannot stop thinking 'oh should i have waited till May/June for Montevina release?' etc...

If anybody here got the special edition, please let me know how you find yours and how you are using it (i.e. with XP or Vista?). That would be cool.

    Thanks.

I recently ordered the dv2799ea (the 14.1" version of yours) in the UK too.

After having a horrible time with Dell laptops I finally decided to try HP.

I can't tell you how it is because I don't have it yet but I can tell you that Dell's build quality and some of the screens they use are awful.

I've got a dv6775us, and I like it alot. Check the "downgrade to xp" sticky thread. On page 73, post #723 is the driver pack you should use. If you follow mujjuman's instructions and use that driver pack you shouldn't have any problems downgrading. I'm assuming it will have a PM965 chipset, which it should, but check using Everest just in case.

Hey guys thanks for the comments. Although, my dv6799 hasn't arrived yet!!!

HP UK keeps dragging the ETA date later and later, every time I checked my order status online. Initially it was due by the end of Feb, as their online store stated 'it will take apprx. 2weeks', then the date changed to 4th March, 5th March, 7th March, 10th March, 12th, 14th, 15th, 17th then became 18th March when I checked this morning...

I phoned HP UK (well, India) to seek explanation, when the ETA hit 12th March. The person told me "it's because dv6799 is a new product, so we still haven't got any stock. Sometimes things get earlier than ETA, so let's hope you get your product sooner than 12th."

Then now ETA got even later, it gave me enough time to have second though about my configuration (T8100 & Copper finish), so I e-mailed them asking the possibility of changing my option, since they do states 'call to discuss options' on the website. Their answere was simple 'we only supply standard model to UK'.

Hey if HP UK only supply standard models and not customized models (like HP USA & JAPAN does), I really don't see why they have to take more than one month to ship the product and this doesn't justify them keep changing the ETA date. What kind of stock management is that? basically HP UK have no idea, don't they?

I love HP product quality so I'd like to stick with HP and dv6799, but at this rate, I'm not certain...

As far as I know, those who (in USA & JAPAN) ordered their 'personalized' dv6700 series after I ordered mine (14th Feb), already got theirs in hand. Why is UK market so crap???? It seems UK has less priority over the supply of new product.

That really sucks. You should call them back and speak to a manager, this long of a wait is unacceptable

I ordered my dv2799ea special edition direct from HP in the UK on the 8th February, exactly the same story, estimate of when they are getting it in stock just gets further and further away currently it is the 17th March (previously 22nd February, 29th February, 12th March). I can't even check mine online cause that doesn't work with my order number so I have to phone them.

Yesterday I spoke to a manager who simply said 'do you want to place an order for another laptop?'

I said no, I will wait a little longer cause I really want this laptop plus I got a 10% discount, so he said he'll make sure i'm the first to get one when they come in stock.

They had no problem taking the £910 out my account on February 15th and are still advertising the dv2799ea special edition as 'normally ships within 2 weeks' when they have never even had it in stock since it's release.

I might just have to get a refund and buy it from dabs.com for £90 more cause I have no idea when/if I will ever get it direct from HP.

Leo7, so I'm not alone then. I checked dabs.com and found no copper design dv6799 (or core 2 duo vatiant)...
I wish you are HP manager. Unfortunately e-mail, or phone a manager did not help much, I was also told that 'if you cannot wait, you can cancel and other models are available for you.'

I sent another e-mail to them stating my disappointment over their un-proffessionalism. Let's see what they would say about that if they ever reply.

Is that only HP or entire UK having difficulity providing Penryn chipped models?

oh, and yeah, HP UK did take £710 from my account last month alright without a hitch.

I also order a dv2799ea off HP direct as they where the only place stocking the laptop at that time (and to get 10% disc) on 14th Feb. I have had an ever increasing ETA for the delivery ever since. The are very quick to take the money but with no guarentee of when it will be delivered.

When I called to complain I just got effectively a tuff s**t response from the women on the fone. With the comment that I should read the T&Cs which state that they will take your money after 5 days even if they have no idea of when they will deliver the goods.

I'm tempted to cancel my order but the spec of the laptop seems very good (and it would cost me extra to order it from somewhere else....). It's almost been a month is it worth waiting longer.....

I am currently spec'ing up the hardware for a major UK telco's eCommerce site which include about £2mil of HP hardware/software - I'm very tempted to suggest SUN of Fujisu-Siemens kit instead... And tel HP why they lost the deal....

iankenn, i totally understand why you get so tempted.

since we ordered it on the same day, i guess our ETA works the same. so let me tell you that...

NOW THE ETA IS 20th MARCH!!!

HP UK, are they having fun with us or what?

If i seek an alternative laptop in UK, it would be DELL or ACER but they are not that desireble from my point of view (at least for now.)

    I got mine, 1 hour ago!!! :D

Typing this from it now, it's awesome!

Iankenn can you tell me what screen manufacture you got, when it comes?

You can do this by going to

system and maintenance > device manager > monitors > right click generic pnp monitor > click properties > details tab > then under property go to hardware id, it's the number in the value box, mine is SEC4642, which is a samsung screen.

HI gUys well think you should look at the Dixons website. I went in their on 1st March bought a DV2799ea for £860 there and then With all the extras HP ship. Also it was a good choice after studying all the latest release for a £1000 this is definitely the best. Also looked at the AR series from sony good build quality not enough specs seems you pay more for the brands nowadays. Anyway cancel your order go direct to Dixons and make a purchase. (also on their website) :)

hello guys! anybody here bought pavilion 6799ee? core duo T9300, 2.5Ghz with 2gb ram? any recent observation regarding this model?

By the way i just bought mine.. i just want to share to you what i observed on this model..

when i received the package, ang tried to power up the unit..i noticed a load sound coming from the cpu fan..keys are not aligned and it boot up very slow! another thing is there is a poping sound from speakers as you open some files poping sound as if you powered up an amplifier.

I was really disappointed with this one..I was expecting to have a good product from HP!

My first choice was to buy DV2799 it has same specs with 6799ee only differs on it video memory and since they dont have stock I was forced to replaced it with this piece of junk!

If you have any same experience as mine please share it with and please help me find the right contact person to relay this message.

    Thanks guys and more power.

Few weeks back I was googling around for HP Pavilion DV-6799EA that I came across a great offer, through Google Shopping, and thats how I ended up with HP Pavilion DV6799EA Special Edition from http://www.onlinedigitaldeals.com for £599.99. At that time around it was relatively a decent price. Though its still around the same minimum mark.

Regardless, I must say that DV-6799 is a great Investment, much worth considering the blowing specifications & performance of the laptop.

What I particularly loved was its Stand-out alluring yet elegant metallic look.

Thanks to Vista that it slows down the performance despite a decent 2GB Ram, but this takes nothing away from the machine. I personally prefer and would recommend a downgrade to Windows XP.
In a nutshell so far, I'm simply loving it.
    Cheers...

The Crystal Bright Screen is a Class and adds beauty to its decent metallic look.
The Nvidia GeForce card accelerates the performance when it comes to motion graphics / games.

And thanks to its cooling system that I haven't noticed any serious Noise.

What I was actually tempted was that Cartoon Laptop so caleld HP Artist HP Pavilion DV2899EA for its Amazzzingggggg specs for its price. However I cdn't like its design. It sounds more from Cartoon Network rather than HP. :p
However that Cartoon Model (HP Pavilion DV2899EA) lacks the smart Sleeve case and Laser Wireless Mouse. :D
