My new DV9000 series notebook has two hard drives. The setup went fine, but in using the computer, the second hard drive keeps starting and stopping, sometimes 4 or 5 times a minute and then other times not at all. When I look at the usage in computer it shows all of the software and OS on C drive. When I look at what is on the D drive it says this folder is empty and shows 148 free of 149GB while saying 100% free.

    Does anyone have any insight?

My DV9774 did that for weeks until I turned Indexing off... yes even though the drive was empty at that time.

Thank you for the reply. By doing a search, I found indexing options, but am unsure what do do next. Can you provide more detail how to do what you did?

right click on C or D drive, click on properties, and uncheck the box that says "index this drive for faster searching"

Thank you for the replies. I have performed the said operation (turn off indexing for the second drive), but it is still occuring. Is there any other possible cause, or other solution?

I should also mention that it seems to turn on and off in clusters.
