Just check out this laptop at Best Buy--awfully tempting for $550 and basically has everything I need (it doesn't have a webcam or lightscribe, but those are luxuries that I would rarely use).
I was planning on buying it but saw next to it this, which isn't worth $500 more but what I liked about it was the keyboard. As a writer, the keyboard is very important--the cheaper laptop has a fine keyboard, but I REALLY like the one on the special edition. It was only slightly different, but it seemed to be stiffer, with more "spring back" and I also liked the glossy finish. The touch pad buttons also seemed more solid.
Anyways, my question is this: Is this keyboard actually different? And is it only specific to the "special editions?" I want a basic Pavilion as cheaply as possible, but really want that keyboard.
Maybe I need to wait for the next 30% off coupon?

I was looking at the keyboards at best buy when examining different pavillions/dv2000 variants for keyboard flex.
The SE's definitely have different keyboards, at least in feel and material finish. I don't know if there is a uniqe product number however, i.e. is it the same part number, just a newer version, or is it a unique keyboard to those editions? The part # is printed on the back of the keyboard, if you happen to remove it. If the part number is different, you can pass it along to HP and re-order it, then install it.
It should fit into the unit the same way as the non-SE keyboards do. See http://h20181.www2.hp.com/plmconten...382&MEID=CF4D36A0-D4E4-4E35-9570-7E0EBB090905 and click "keyboard" at left for service instructions. Very easy.
Pavilion special edition--different keyboard?
