    Hello:
I bought 6 HP DV1000's this summer for my business, and 3 of them now refuse to boot. Nothing happens, no lights, nothing, when I hit the power button. 2 of them were lost while "off", but recently one just died in the middle of my work and never booted back up.

Any ideas what is happening??? I've tried messing with the RAM, getting the static electricity out, messing with the battery... I am at a loss.

    Thanks,
    KWM

One going down I could understand as just bum luck - sometimes, you get a system with a bad component. But three? That has to be a problem with the environment, I would think. What is it like in your place of business? How is your power there... clean, or do your lights get brighter and dimmer sometimes?

    Thanks for your reply.

People use them on the road as well as in the office. I know that the 2 first ones were not really ever used in the same environment as the 3rd, the office. Not alot of problems with the power here either.

Also, we have 10 Dell laptops used in the same environment, but no problems with them. All 6 HP's were bought from the same Office Depot, so maybe it was a bad batch, or Office Depot mishandled them or something...

Perhaps that's the problem - mishandling by the Depot staff. These things are supposed to be packaged well, but it's amazing what a bunch of kids making minimum wage are capable of when it comes to damaging technology! ;) A bad batch is possible, too.

I guess the silver lining for you is that they're within the 1 year base warranty, so you can have them repaired.

Glad I ordered my notebook from HP Shopping, if the folks at the Depot beat them up so badly that half of them fail! Hope you'll let us know what comes if taking them back....

If they are from the same batch, it could be a batch production problem. You probably should check with HP and complain.
