    Hi,

I have a 2 month old HP Pavillion dv2130ea and the sound keeps on disappearing. I'll start the latop and all will be fine. I'll see the speaker icon on the toolbar. Then I double click it the sound controls are there. After 10 minutes or so the sound control just disappears. When I double click the speaker icon on the toolbar it will come up with an error box saying "There are no mixer controls available. Click on control panel and add hardware".

In device manager I have the following hardware under sound.

    Audio Codecs
    Conexant High Definition Audio
    Legacy Audio Drivers
    Legacy Video Capture Devices
    Media Control Devices
    Video Codecs

The OS is Windows XP Media Centre. I have de-installed and re-installed the sound drivers using the "Application & Driver Recovery program" and to no avail. I have also used the driver from the HP site and also followed their instructions to leave everything but Audio Codecs and Legacy Audio Drivers.

I have tried callling HP but that was no help.

Help! I thought I had bought a good laptop!

Thought you'd like to know that you're not alone!!

I have the same notebook and ... yes you guessed it... the same problem.

Did you ever manage to sort out the problem? I have just updated to Vista and the problem is still there.

Welcome to the board to all of you.

    S K S and quailburger:

Try the new beta driver for the dv2000t series that I've uploaded here. It's the first Vista-certified driver for our models, but it is also designed for XP.

berrybug: I think you should have a "Venice" audio codec so that driver won't work for you. Are you using the latest driver for your model? XP driver here and Vista driver here. Hopefully, one of those can fix the problem.

I have the HP dv6119us and am having audio problems also.
It says that there is no device for sound, but restarts sometimes fix it for bit.
I've looked everywhere and can't find a fix. I think it might be the drivers, but not sure.
