Original cable is fine; both 900p and 1080p use the same interface/cable (dual channel LVDS). If you had a 768p it would've been a different matter, since that requires only a single channel cable (though it would run on the dual as well).

There are a few other differences, but don't think they apply here, considering you ordered a DV7-compatible. You may assume a 99% success rate, but if you want the other 1% then supply the actual panel nrs. (sticker on the back of the panel).

t456, thanks so much for your help and reply. So i can ordered the FHD screen w/o change the cable, thanks to confirm me this. It's important for me.
Only one other thing, always in this page: http://www.laptopscreen.com/Italian/model/HP-Compaq/PAVILION~DV7-6197SL/?set_currency=EUR
watching the retro screen photos on thi left of the page, you can see any differences about cables between 2 model/resolution screens?
I see that video connector is always on the left side in all models, and watching this video about similar laptop:
i see that i need to "use" only 2 connector, the video connector on the left side just like in this video and the power connector above (from minute 10 in the video)

My thoughts are not for disassemble/assemble etc.., i have already completely disassembled this laptop 2 times in these 5 years to change thermal past and clean all internal dust, this is one of the worst hp laptop about "hot", i have fear that the FHD model needs of one third connector or something, but seems not from those images.

What you think? Thank you for help, i need of that..

The panel itself only needs a single cable, the second/top cable is for the webcam and wifi antenna. The display cable combines ~30-40 wires of all three devices in a single cable and splits them off later on. This saves cost on the motherboard connector (only needs one, instead of two or three) and makes for easier routing through the display hinge.

With CCFL backlight panels you had one or two separate, 2/4-pin power connector(s), but this a WLED type and these require less power, so the regular, tiny LVDS wires suffice to power the backlight. Aside from that, there existed a few high-gamut panels that really had two connectors. None of these caveats apply here, but there's one thing you may want to check; both old and new panel have to be a bottom-left or bottom-right type. This indicates the location of the panel's connector when viewed from the back (the example in the video is bottom-left). Reason is that the length of the cable may not suffice if you have a mismatch, though there are extender cables to work around that possibility.

Hi, i have had 3 replies from laptop screen after explained all like here:

Thank you for contacting the support team.

We do not recommend you attempt to upgrade the resolution as more than likely the new screen will not function correctly once installed.

Im our experience the two resolutions are not directly interchangeable, you will likely also have to upgrade your flex cable connector to one which supports the higher resolution you are installing.

You are welcome to purchase and attempt the upgrade, however the risk is entirely yours.

We do not know the flex cable specifics for this exact laptop, we are just relating our experience with other customers who have attempted such upgrades.

Just provide the panel nr. (use MonInfo) and we'll see which 1080p panels are compatible. If laptopscreen delivers one of those then it'll be fine. I'm wagering 'Ken' assumes you want to upgrade 768p -> 1080p, which is indeed more complicated, but 900p -> 1080p is not an upgrade, since both require the exact same 2-channel lvds interface. Only reason it wouldn't work is that the panels' connector's pin-out might be different (this is unlikely, though). And, again, providing the actual panel nrs. is sufficient to rule out that slim chance as well.

Good. That's one part down: Chi-Mei N173O6-L02 datasheet and pin-out (page 11). Now you just need to know which panel laptopscreen.com may provide or order an exact model yourself. But, really, this CMO uses a standard interface, so any 1080p 40-pin wled is likely to work.

Now, not all 1080p's are equal in quality and laptopscreen will just ship whatever they have in stock. If you want a panel that's guaranteed to work and is a splendour to behold to boot, then there's only a single one; B173HW01 V4 (or one the other Vx's, but the V4 is preferable). Sadly, none are available atm (the one listed is an 'RW01'), but this V0 is quite an improvement as well.

Hard to tell, but most likely it's a very big improvement over the old panel. Thing is, the N173O6-L02 was only tested using Gossen Mavo-Monitor and the B173HW02 V0 with X-Rite. That's apples and oranges, so ...

Main thing is you are happy with the new display and like the result. Is brightness control working, btw?
