    Hi guys,

Are matte screens available on any Pavillion systems? I've searched and searched, but they pretty much all seem to be 'brightview' or 'infinity brightview', which are glossy, right?

I don't want to start this whole 'matte vs. glossy' debate again, but needless to say I work in a bright office and my DV4T's reflections are killing me :(

So far I've found the business Elitebooks look nice and have matte screens, but they're a tad behind, say, the HDX systems in terms of the available configurations.

    Kind regards,

I too was hoping to find an HP entertainment notebook last winter, when I was researching buying my first laptop. Even at that time, the only HP models that had matte screens were the business models, not the entertainment models (i.e. dv7t, HDX, etc.)

I ended up choosing the dv5t, but the reflections are pretty annoying -- but I find a lot of relief in simply tipping my screen down.

I bought an antiglare film from photodon.com for my dv4z. Highly recommended. I posted a mini-review on this forum.

Thanks guys. I know the screen cover is the logical option, but my display is already quite dark, and I don't particularly want it to get any worse (plus when you start looking at new systems, it's too tempting to buy, ha!).

I'm currently weighing up the 8530W and 8530P (sadly the 17" version is out of my price range, and the equivalent Dell M4400 seems to have a lot of unhappy customers).

    It's a tough call:

    8530P: P8600 CPU, 4GB RAM, 1920x1200 display, 250GB 5400rpm HDD, ATi 3650 graphics ~US$1,550.
    8530W: T9400 CPU, 2GB RAM, 1680x1050 display, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, nVidia Quadro 770M ~US$1,830.

I was originally all set for the 8530P, as I don't play games that often, and I liked the high-res display. However, now I'm leaning toward the 8530W, for it's improved speed (I'll upgrade the RAM myself).

    Any thoughts?

The Photodon film makes zero difference in brightness. It just makes the screen much less harsh on your eyes and protects it from scratches.
