    Hi all,

My brother has a HP Pavillion dv9000 notebook which I passed onto him just under a year ago. All has been fine until today!

The machine won't boot up. When you press the power button the touch lights come on for a second or 2 and the fan will whizz round once and then they'll go off. 5 seconds later it'll do the same, and repeat until the battery and power cable are removed.

Anybody got an idea of how to fix this? My first idea was to discharge the machine (by holding the power button down for 20 secs with power and battery out) which has done nothing, now I think it might be the CMOS battery, but can't test that until tomorrow.

If anyone else has had an resolved this problem I would be grateful of any input.

    Thanks

Does it have a Nvidia GPU?

Not that I'm aware. Its a standard 17" dv9000 from Currys. Not sure what the onboard GPU is. :/

If it has a Nvidia GPU you're more than likely going to be forced to replace the motherboard if you want the laptop to ever work again.

Don't throw it away just yet! Look up guides on google on how to reflow the nvidia gpu on the dv9000, there's a bunch of videos on youtube showing how to do it. Try it and then throw it away. If that doesn't work, then go ahead and part it out and sell it on ebay.

and from my personal experience, I've tired this before, I reflowed the gpu, and while putting it back together, I wanted to test it out before I put all the peices together. So I plugged in the lcd, power board, and plugged it in, it wouldn't power on, so I decided to put it back together completely and then test it out, while in the process, I forgot to pull the ac adapter off the laptop. While moving the motherboard around, I burnt the power circuit. Big loud pop sound, and some smoke. It's alright, got it for free, messed it up for free. Haha
