    Paying for Warranty shipping? Come on HP.

    I ordered a new HP ENVY 17 on the 19th to grab the 25% cash back deal through BING. All good, hope the computer works out well and I don't have to send it back.

    But yesterday I got a shipping notice, even known my build date was on June 1st. "Cool," I thought - as many computer makers often ship before the date they promise.

    Turns it, it was the extended warranty I bought. I got the 2-year accidental damage coverage (I have a 3-year old... it just makes sense) and discovered that I was charged $39.99 for shipping. Why? Oh, because I ordered my laptop second-day delivery.

    Here is the kicker, in order to ship that 8-12lb laptop, HP is going to charge me $39.00 even. Yet to ship me a booklet with their warranty paperwork, they are charging me $39.99 - .99 cents more! Do you think that the warranty paperwork weighs as much as the laptop... perhaps more?


    But then, I can't get over the fact that HP would even consider shipping warranty information - or charging extra for it. If I never open this warranty package, it won't make a lick of difference if my computer breaks and I call HP.

    And because they shipped me warranty yesterday, does HP have some sick idea that my warranty coverage starts now? Nearly two weeks before my laptop ships?


    Well, I am going to push on them until they rebate $39.99. It is the principle of the matter here, less the actual money. I don't know how anyone else here feels about it, but if you don't like it when you order your own computer from HP, I advise you to complain too. Then maybe HP will just remove shipping costs from extended warranties all together.

    Besides, warranty information should be shipped digitally anyway. Like we need more HP paperwork filling our landfills.

    I've never heard of a warranty policy which required the consumer to pay for warranty repair work shipping & handling.

    honestly? I'd spit on customer service...through the phone.

    Is it possible that HP included the laptop shipping charges invoiced on the delivery you received, and it wasn't just for the paperwork?

    Uh, as I read the original post it sounds like HP charged the OP $39.99 shipping charges for just the warranty paperwork which was sent. If so, I would complain to HP also. That is just plain wrong.

    If you order a 3-year Carepack for an Envy with damage insurance it comes with free standard shipping (5-7 business day). If that same Carepack is ordered with two business day shipping, the shipping cost is $39.99.

    If the Carepack was ordered as an accessory with the Envy when it was configured there should not be any extra shipping cost involved. Go back and check your invoice on the website. Was it ordered separate with two day shipping? If so, there is your answer. If not, they should not have billed you a separate shipping charge for the Carepack.

    Did the OP even LOOK at his credit card statement (on-line) to verify his suppositions or is this thread a convenient reason to rant at something/anything??

    How about calling HP and asking. Politely.

    I have plenty of 'statements' and 'billings' that at first glance looked weird but all of which were eventually straightened out with no expenditure of bile or hate.

    Some people just live to be 'angry all the time'.

    Shouldn't have paid extra for 2 day shipping. They ship all their laptops with the same shipping.

    Shouldn't have bought a warranty either--waste of money.

    HP is going to credit me for the shipping. It was almost $40 to send a letter sized envelope second day air.

    The actual package contained a vey small booklet containing the terms of the protection plan as well as a sheet of paper containing the "serial number" of the plan I bought.

    The HP store treats exdended warranties as accessories and are charged the same shipping you place on the main computer.


    In response to a previous poster, I got the accidental damage policy because of my 3 year old daughter and her tendancy to do "work" on my computer. When she was two she found a sharpie and drew on my desk 27in screen because she wanted to help me with my work. I am a graphic artist. Needless to say, I now error on the side of protection.


    If anyone else bought their envy with a protection warranty, be sure to call HP and inform them you wish to have the warranty shipped standard if you select second day air for the laptop.

    And no, there is a difference between ground 3-5 day and second day air.
