I can't decide whether or not to get the 760 (2.0) or 770(2.13). I am ordering a DV4000 and have already decided to get 2GB of ram. But the last decision has been should I go ahead and pay the $150 extra for the 770??

Personally, I would just opt for the lower speed. .13 GHz isn't going to really make much of a noticeable difference - you'd be better off getting more RAM or a faster hard drive. Or just pocketing it if you already have those.

Unless you have lots of money just burning a hole in your pocket, don't. The .13 will make a very small difference, not worth $150 to me. Spend it on something else, like a faster hard drive, which will make a bigger performance increase.

Yeah money isnt really an issue I just didn't know if it is worth $150 more. The minimum I am buying is 2.0 though. I am going to sleep on the computer and will probably order in the morning.

Its not worth $150 for that little of a speed increase, that $150 can be better spent elsewhere.

no. .13 is nothing, really. i mean, in like, 2 years, you're not going to look back and say "D@mn i wish i had shelled out that $150 more for the 2.13 chip!" right? =)

Get the 7200RPM hard drive first, then if you can afford the CPU, get it.

Hmm I can't really see myself springing for a 7200 rpm HD. I agree it would be faster but I am buying an external HD also.

Doesn't really make sense if you're so torn about the 2.13 vs 2.0 but instantly refuse the 7200rpm drive. The 7200rpm drive will make a much larger performance difference than the .13 difference between processors.

But I am worried about that affecting my battery life. A 80GB 7200rpm HD is NOT cheap.

I'm beating a dead horse, but I agree with everyone else - 770 not worth the money.

Are you sure you need 2GB of RAM? HP charges a lot for that. You can do it yourself for around $210-260 bucks, depending on the quality of the RAM you buy.

Yeah I am 100% sure I need 2GB. WOAH no way I'm buying their RAM. I have my own.

This is what I think you should do:

    1. Get the 2.0Ghz CPU as you won't see too much of a speed difference.

    2. With the money you just saved on the CPU, get yourself the 7200rpm HDD and an external USB 2.0 drive enclosure for 2.5" drives. Put the 7200rpm drive into the notebook and take the old HDD out and put into the drive enclosure.

    3. Don't speficially go out and buy an external hard drive, especially if it's a 3.5" drive since it requires a seperate AC adapter to power the drive (2.5" drives don't need extra power, USB power is enough).

Uggh I couldnt help it I bought the 2.13ghz.

About the hard drive. I am going to need something ALOT bigger than a 2.5" drive can hold. I have a 300GB Drive here that I need an enclosure for.

Why'd you get it? It wasn't worth the extra money, oh well, too late now. Hard drive enclousures are pretty cheap and you can find them at major electronic stores.

Just couldn't help it. I know its only a tad faster but hey I just had to do it. My total for everything (buying the ram elsewhere) is $1790.84. I added the warranty also.

its a pain to upgrade later, even if you can, so if you got the extra $$ get the fastest cpu you can.

Yeah money isnt an issue (to an extent). Something in my head kept telling me that that extra 130 mhz may come in handy someday.

Are the memory slots easy to access on the DV4000?

    Keywords... to an extent.

I also have a 1.67ghz 15"PB so I am not trying to spend too much money.
