Ok... I'll admit it... I bought this laptop in haste around Xmas time not really paying attention to what I was buying... I wanted a Laptop capable of playing my games when away from my desktop PC, which is infrequent. Here are the specs for my laptop:
HP Pavilion dv9008nr
AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-50 (2 CPUs), ~1.6GHz
PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.1
MS Windows Vista x64
2048MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150
120GB HD
I don't travel that frequently, and I've only just discovered that I can't get this laptop to run most of my games in a usable manner... My bottleneck is the NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 I think. I didn't realize at the time of purchase that it was sharing the system RAM, not having video RAM of it's own. I've bumped the Video RAM BIOS Setting up to 128, but that is as far as the BIOS will let me take it. My 'Display Settings' shows 'Total Available Graphics Memory: 399MB', 'Dedicated Video Memory: 128MB', System Video Memory: 0MB and 'Shared System Memory: 271MB'.
Any suggestions on how I might boost the performance on this system to get my games better FPS? I'm well past my exchange date at Best Buy or I'd exchange up.
Thanks!

Oh dear, what were you thinking ;o
Drivers improve only by margins...
Maybe an overclock? -
yeah... Not thinkin'...
I think software overclocking is my only option (Phoenix BIOS)... And most of the software OC solutions say not to use 'em with Vista yet. It does run very cool, so OC is an option... Has anybody seen any OC options for Vista yet? -
brianstretch Notebook Virtuoso
I haven't heard of any OC options for this integrated GPU, and I wouldn't recommend trying any. The configure-to-order notebooks direct from hp.com can have GeForce 7600 GPUs that are very good for gaming but they're rarely if ever in the retail versions. Sad to say your only option is to sell your current notebook and buy a higher-end configuration. Step up to one of the faster Turion X2's while you're at it. Or... just give up on gaming on it. I have the same notebook but I use a Shuttle SN27P2 desktop minicube when I'm at home. Inexpensive notebook plus loaded desktop makes a nice combination.

All retail dv9000t laptops have a Geforce 7600 Go, but you're looking to spend at least $1300 going that route.
As for your current situation, not much can be done. No reasonable amount of performance is going to come out of tweaking your system. -
YOU NEED TO TURN OFF THE 8X ANTIALIAS FEATURE AND THE OTHER 4X IN THE NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL TO USE GAMES, I RUN COD, COD UO AND I HAVE NO PROBLEMS UNTIL I ENABLE THOSE FEATURES THEN IT'S USELESS. I CAN RUN 1280 BY 11XX NOW BUT WITH THOSE ENABLED ITS DEAD AT 800X600.. I ALSO HAVE 2 GIG RAM AND 4 GIG READYBOOST WITH VISTA, IT'S A MUCH BETTER LAPTOP WITH VISTA AND READYBOOST.. I'M PUTTING TL60 IN FROM EBAY ... THEN THAT'S THE LAPTOP.. MY DESKTOP IS WHERE I SPENT THE MONEY.. GAMING ON THE LAPTOP IS GOOD THOUGH..
