I've read lots of threads about screens going blank/black as a result of sleep etc...
I ordered several weeks ago the Envy 17 3D with the max RAM, Processor, Storage etc... VERY Pricey, but the first few days were totally worth it.
Last night I put it into sleep mode, packed it up in my car, took it out, opened it up... and blank. Nothing...
I can connect it to a local external monitor and it displays just fine however, but my capslock key blinks 2x on startup indicating a Corrupt BIOS according to HP site.
HP says there is a 28 day wait for them to build me a replacement, and 2 weeks for repair... and refuses to do anything to expedite it for me regardless of how much I offer to pay to get it done.
HP... Fscking Lousy. I will never buy through them again and I'm tempted to just return this one. Nothing to compensate, nothing to make me feel any better about it, not even a faint glimmer of "Ill put a note on it for rush".
It wouldn't be such a rush if my old laptop wasn't about to die and I desperately needed a new one for a work event I'm presenting at in 2 weeks out of state. Now I'm forced to buy a low end laptop in addition to the excessive amount I paid for this one. NOT happy.
I was considering ordering the stock version for the quick ship sake, then upon receipt of the replacement returning it, but, I already have to lay out money for the replacement until the receive the broken one, plus the stock one... and that's just too much money to have floating around given how little i have at the moment.
If anyone else has experience a complete screen blank which they were unable to resolve, please reply, I'll try just about anything... though I'm convinced it's hardware and while I'd love to just fix it myself I don't need to void the warranty... unless you know for sure the solution will work.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Full Restore
Updating the BIOS
Disabling all Sleep
Removing the power status from the registry
Updating all drivers
Countless Hard Reboots
Using a different battery
Running the BIOS Memory and HD check
Chkdisk
Putting it to sleep then trying to wake it up
Adjusting all of the triggers for wake up
Running System Diagnostics
I know the 2 blinks means "Corrupt BIOS", but initially it was 3 blinks which was memory failure. That ceased and it switched to just 2 blinks.
ANY suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Mine went blank and it turned out to be a driver that Windows installed through windows update. I booted to safe mode and did a driver roll back and that fixed it. Doesn't sound like the same thing you're going through however.
Permanent Blank Screen on day 6 of use...
