Hey all, I resently bought a Compaq Persario R3000. She has an AMD 64 athlon and a ton of memory. But only a 64 Nvidia. Im a huge gamer but I'm only fimiliar with Desktops, so brace yourselves for what might be a dumb NOOB question. Is it posible to get a new Video Card? Sadly I fear must I live with the 64.. If not a new video card, then what could I get to boost gfx? Thanks -Jim

No, the video chip is soldered onto the motherboard. Yes, we're all mad at the HP marketing weasle responsible for this.
You can overclock the GPU though, same CoolBits registry trick as with the desktop nVidia cards (set HKLMNVIDIA CorporationGlobalNVTweakCoolBits to 3, which enables the clock frequencies settings in Advanced display properties). I'm running 250/500 (up from 190/400), enough to make UT2004 much more playable at 1280x800x16bit res. I do recommend undervolting the CPU with ClockGen for nForce3 chipset motherboards to keep the total thermal load down, 1.8GHz @ 1.2V and 2GHz+ @ 1.3V tend to work very well (AMD was overly conservative with their default voltage settings).Last edited by a moderator: May 5, 2015 -
This is a weak GPU I ordered this machine and returned it to get the Pentium model I like AMD better but I need the Radeon 9600 128MB GPU for games.
