Just got my Compaq v2000 and HP dv1000 laptops. Both are beautiful machines. Details from outside in:

Compaq: exactly 1.25" thin at the front; exactly 1.5625" thin at the back (where the 6-cell battery is). Exact chassis dimensions are 13 1/8" x 9 1/4".

HP dimensions are exactly the same except it's 1/16" thinner in the front (1 3/16").

Weight of both machines feels about the same, and both are beautifully light for my purposes--around 5 lbs.

QuickPlay/remote control feature of the HP is fantastic.

Keyboard of Compaq is a little noiser than the HP but not a big deal.

All operational features on both machines work great. Keeping the HP and sending back the Compaq.

Its a little cheap to buy both to try them out then send one back. When you do that it hurts the companies profits for you to be lazy. Also they have a very nice return policy that we all enjoy, please don't abuse it. I'm sorry if I miss understood but it sounds like you got them both to try them out planning to keep only one.

Its because of the QuickPlay feature on the DV1000, and its quieter keyboard.

I agree. I'm sorry man, but HP is a nice company and they do have a good return policy, so we needn't abuse it. Best Buy has both Compaq and HP's, and although they may not be the same model, you could at least get a feel for both of them. I went to best buy to decide between an HP and Compaq, and when I went there I found that I liked the HP better because of its looks.
