Hi there. Any assistance will be very helpful in this matter. We were having a problem with the trackpad buttons on my wife's CQ60 laptop. I found a service manual and disassembled the laptop down to the trackpad (I found nothing).

When I put it back together I wouldn't start up. I dissassembled again to make sure I reconnected everything but it still wouldn't start. I did this a third time just to be sure.

The computer gets power. The fans turn on. Power button light and WiFi light turn on. Power indicator (leftmost front indicator) is on. HDD light is flashing (just a rythmic flashing, not flashing like it's reading the HDD). "Lightning bolt" indicator light is NOT on. There is nothing on the display and NO beep codes. I'm stumped!

I tried to reset by pulling the CMOS battery for 5 minutes. I also tried to reset by removing battery and power cord and holding down power button for a minute. No luck.

Can anybody help me to determine what the problem might be?

    Thanks,

    Dr. Nick

    Hello again,

FWIW, literally minutes after I posted my question I was able to figure out what the problem was. Apparently, this machine had 3 GB of RAM in it (I had forgotten) - a 1 GB and a 2 GB which, despite my best attempt to keep them in order, must be in the correct slots in order for the computer to boot (or do anything at all - the lack of indication of what was wrong was extremely frustrating). Anyway, I switched the RAM around and, just like that, the computer boots again! Very happy. And the touchpad (the reason I took it apart to begin with) is working now. Bonus.

    Regards.
