    Hi guys
    here is my symptoms

    upon pressing the power button
    1. Powers up (all blue lights comes on like normal)
    2. HDD lights come on once then it's off
    3. Screen does not display anything (NO HP logo, NO bios start, NO safe mode options) BLANK

    please help to diagnose

I will be getting a SATA to USB cable to check the hard drive

what else could this be? - I've been reading the lid switch problem, but it does not match my symptoms 100%

    Thank youu

Since, I see you got a nvidia 6150 go card I'll suggest you to check if your laptop is among those listed in the following link (I'm pretty sure it is among those in the list)
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us

I had an identical problem with my old dv2412ca, where I can't even access the bios. Although you can reboot multiple times (8-10 times), if you're lucky you might get a boot. Once you get a boot I suggest you to backup all your important files to an external device (HDD, DVD, etc). Because there's nothing you can do to fix it. It's a nvidia chipset problem and HP will need to replace your motherboard or they'll give you another laptop.

    I hope this help,

Try to convince them that's it's the faulty nvidia chipset even if it's 2 years old. I hope they accept to fix it or replace it.

    Keep us update,

My computer is also compaq v3225au. .. Installed windows Xp now... Bought my laptop before 15 months.. so company servicing period is over... Now the battery backup is 2minutes... earlier it was 25 minutes....

Now problem is that cannot even see anything after turning on the Laptop... Black screen only on the screen after turning it on. The power and other blue lights on the laps are showing up...don't know what to do with it now...

    Found this article

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&rule=13654&product=3327493

But problem is now without seeing the laptop how to upgrade the Bios... No idea...

jackons4u I think you have the same problem as me and ndondo did. It's the nvidia chip most likely they'll need to replace your motherboard. I'll suggest you to check if your laptop is among those in the following list

    (North America)
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01300427#c01300427_dv20

    If you purchased your laptop in Australia and you live there (which I presume) I suggest this one;

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=au&docname=c01375997#c01375997_v32

If yes, than you're laptop is under the "HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement" this mean you're cover "for 24 months after the start of the standard HP Limited Warranty"

Spoke to Edison at the number on the first link
and he is doing his job by walking me trhough all troublshooting steps
    1. 30 secs pressing the power button
    2. re-seating the battery, ram and the HDD

then gave me a service order number, they will pick it up and ship it back for free -
Box will arrive in 2 business days
Laptop turn around will be 9 Business days

    I'll keep everyone posted

    Thanks for savings my laptop!!!

It's great hearing that they're willing to take it back for repair. :) I think the mostly likely situation will be that they give you replacement since most of their parts are back ordered. This happened to me back in August.

P.S. Don't forget to back up your important data because they'll do a full recovery if they repaired it and don't send unnecessary accessories such as; battery, adapter, upgraded ram, etc...

Awesome I stripped out the battery , charger and upgraded ram
    so it's back to stock

I backed up my data, I delete my account
the weird thing is the call center asked for my windows password???

I gave them a phony password, I don't think the will need it

I just boxed them out today and give it to the UPS guy
let see how long the turn around for this going to be

    I'll keep everyone posted

    thx

Some people have an "administrator" password.

The turnaround time should be 2 weeks if they have the parts. I assume you're dealing with HP Canada right? I can tell you that I'm quite pleased by their service.
