    Hi there

umm well as the story goes, my girlfriends compaq laptop will not boot at all... she said she was typing some stuff on it when it just shut down suddenly on her, and wouldnt boot after that... she said she had had it on all day... im not sure if its an overheating problem because she didnt take note of whether her fan was working or not..

arent laptops built with a blue screen of overheating?? like before it overheats a blue screen will come up with a message saying the cpu temperature is critical??

anyway, look if anyone could offer some diagnosis information that would be appreciated eh, we are desperate to get it working again cos she will need to use it intensively really soon, and all her data is saved there..

thanks in advance, really appreciate it...

I take it as she uses the laptop on AC adapter, not purely on battery. Well then, if you are interested, try cool it down by putting it in the fridge for like 5 minutes until you feel it is totally cool at the bottom.

Let it sit and adjust to the room temperature again..and try to turn it back on. I have no idea of the blue screen that you are referring to. If there is one, it would be built-in to all the Windows, not just the ones for laptop.

Compaq typically has a hotter laptop than general, mainly because of the hard disk. I have a Compaq Evo n610c myself, and I find it surprising that yours would shut down and refuse booting up again. Good luck with it.

The other thing I was thinking was maybe the AC adapter died and your girlfriend didn't realize that it was working solely on battery power. As a result, the battery doesn't have enough power to boot back up because it's been severely drained. That happened to a few of our corporate HP Compaq machines. We had to leave the laptop plugged in for at least an hour to at least get it started.

Any chances a virus got onto the computer?

Which model Compaq? If it's old enough it may be due for its CPU heatsink fins to be cleaned out, especially if the fan runs 24x7.
