Hi all,
Last week I tried to installed window XP on my DV6448se laptop. I formatted the hard drive and install windows XP pro. It load all the drivers from the CD and asked what partitions to install windows. After it load all the those files from the CD, it rebooted and load the drivers from the CD again. It will never go to the hard drive to load the operating systems that it has installed, and it keeps load from the drivers from the CD over and over again.
Because I couldn't install windows XP, so I try to install clean windows Vista. but I got another problem that windows Vista couldn't find my hard drive. Now I cannot do anything with my HP laptop. Is it good idea to buy the system recovery disc from the HP website? is it works?
Someone please help me with this problem?
Thanks

haven´t you ejected the cd after the files were copied? well, looks like you were constantly booting from cd instead from the laptops hdd. do you remember pressing a button when the system starts up and tells you there is a bootable disk : press any key to boot from Cd... ?
maybe you should correct your boot-order or just simply not press the button, or the best way , just eject the windows cd, after the system files were copied.
you sure vista did not find your hdd ? or was it XP ? since xp does not have any sata drivers out of the box it can not recognize the hdd. you should either slipstream the sata drivers provided by HP to your xp installation cd. you should be using Nlite for slipstreaming Windows XP.
didn´t you create recovery CD´s yourself when you first got the system ? well, if you haven´t you and you definatly can not get any windows to install on your laptop you should get Hp´s recovery media. but i would try figuring out why your installations went wrong, before asking HP for recovery media. -
Schoko, Thanks for prompt reply,
Fisrt question: Yes I tried to ejected the CD out so it won't boot from the CD, but the computer is hung up, it didn't do anything it said something like "cannot find the **.** file press control +alt+delete to restart". Second question is, I didn't press any bottom on the keyboard, when I press the power bottom on the computer, it automatic load the drivers from the CD without asking me to press anything. One thing I want to tell you is, I went to bios and set " time to press f10 and f12 = 0 second" i don't know if this have anything to do with it.
Yes the window Vista cannot find the hard drive. When i installed window vista it went to the step, where it asked "which partition you want to install the windows, and the is a empty box with the option to load the driver or rescan for hard drive and browse, I clicked on browse buttom, then I can see my C drive (has the windows xp that I had installed), I can see my USB printer and windows vista CD.
I tried to install windows xp with Nlite and the Intel sata driver, but it still not boot from from the hard drive after it load all the drivers (i don't know if this is the right driver : sp32478)
I forgot to created the system recovery CD, when i install windows xp. I thought it will be in the D drive and I can get it after I install XP. I did chat with HP help desk, they say I need to order system recovery disc for my computer.
Hope all this long message will give you more info about my laptop problems.

schoko,
Here it the good news, I did delete the partition, format it and install windows XP. After it copied all files from CD and restart, I took the CD out, now it boot from the hard drive and install windows now.
I will let you know if anything happens.
Thanks -
Good to hear you got your problems solved.
but i have to say it still is very strange that vista would not find your hdd.
yes, most likely, f10 and f12 give you some options during boot. -
I got the XP running now, now I will find all the drivers that missing for my laptop,
Thanks -
future referense: always go to your BIOS (normally F2 at logo screen @ startup) and make sure it is set to boot from hard drive.

This quoted section: "then I can see my C drive (has the windows xp that I had installed)". THAT IS YOUR HARD DRIVE, and Vista DID detect it correctly. You did not mention that you are trying to install BOTH Vista and XP at the same time. If that is not the case, and you only wanted to install Vista, then you should have chosen the XP drive and made it install on top of that (format the drive first to remove XP).
Please help me! I cannot install Windows XP or Vista on my DV6448se AMD laptop
