Hey guys, I recently bought a HP Envy M6 1148-CA laptop for 499$ and i just love it.

The specs are AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M(1.9 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache), 8 GB RAM, 750 GB HDD(5400 rpm), AMD Radeon HD 7640G Discrete-Class (up to 3.98 GB), 15.6" Widescreen LED Display (1366X768)

    But there is a problem.

Whenever i run some heavy processes like video conversion or games, the laptop overheats in about 20 minutes then it automatically shut downs itself.

For eg., I was playing NFS Most Wanted 2012 on it and it lasted just 20 minutes before heating up like a oven and turning off.

I completely hate this as i expect much more from a decently powerful laptop like this. I cannot exploit the laptop's full potential due to this problem and it's pretty well polluting my day and nights. :(

Please guys help with anything you know!!!

    Thanks!!

I would take the bottom cover off make sure there isn't a roadblock of dust between the metal heatsink and the fans. Also if that isn't the issue, you may have to remove the heatsink. Get yourself a good thermal paste and reapply it.

    Here are some good choices...

    Newegg.com - MASSCOOL G751 Shin-Etsu Thermal Interface Material

    or

    Newegg.com - Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound AS5-3.5G - Thermal Compound / Grease

This won't match your laptop but here is a dell laptop that I changed the thermal paste on in this thread with pics so you can see what I am talking about.

But brother my laptop's new. Just 2 months old. How much dust can enter the compartment in 2 months?
I've heard AMD overheats; Is there a issue with my processor?

And thermal paste? It's a brand new piece of hardware, why does it need modifications? It's supposed to be in perfect working condition.

Do you even know its shutting down from overheating? What are the temps that you are seeing, assuming youve monitored it? What kind of surface do you set the notebook on? What is the ambient temp. Without some decent information your posts just sound like you are a troll.

How many brand new things do you think best buy sells, and then consumers return after a week of use? Or how many return authorizations Newegg processes in a day on brand new hardware?
