Hello. Does anybody here know a website or a link where they have articles or where they talk about what you can do and can't do with recovery disks or partitions?

Somebody told me recovery disks won't work if you changed any hardware since you made the disks. Is that true? Does the same go for the recovery partition ?

    TIA Bill S.

I would think that if you made a major change - say a new CPU or a different video card - then the Recovery is probably not going to work or work completely since all of the software and drivers in the recovery were made for a certain configuration. You can get rid of them if you want as long as you feel comfortable with the requirements to correct things should something go wrong.

I have always found that a set of the real install disks (fullly licensed) along with a good backup scheme served me well.

I habitually delete those recovery partitions as worthless. And recovery disks that restore a system to the state it was sent to me from the vendor are less than useless.

I consider buying a full copy of the OS to be an integral part of buying any PC.
