    Hi,

I really hope someone can help me out here - really don't know what to do :(

I just got a new HP Envy 14. All was fine, but after creating the recovery discs I did a reboot and got presented with the HP QuickWeb setup. Didn't realise I had chosen to use it but continued to complete the setup anyway...

Weirdly the cursor is always a watch/timer cursor rather than the normal arrow pointer. Anyway, after going through a few setup screens the Quickweb setup just stays on a blank screen with the watch/timer cursor still showing. I've waited a fair while a few times now and nothing happens so it's like it's stalled or something. The furthest I've managed to get with the setup is to just after the wifi network connection setup.

I've tried getting in the the bios using f8, f9, f10 ans shift as the laptop boots but it never seems to do anything and I just get the QuickWeb setup page again. The first ting to show on the laptop during a boot is this page so I don't even know if I can get in to the BIOS? Does Quickweb load before anything else?

Is there are way around this Quickweb thing? How do I get past it?

Whats the way to get in to the Envy 14 bios? maybe I'm just not pushing the right keys?

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas with this - my new laptop is completely useless right now :(

Getting into the BIOS will not side step this program from running I don't think. What you need to do is shoot for Safe Mode. Use the F8 key during startup. If you see a Windows splash screen, you went to far, press the F8 key prior to that. Once in Safe Mode you can look at the Start Up programs and stop the Quickweb program from running. It should be listed in your Start Up programs. Not sure why it is freezing on you. Is it waiting for some kind of input? Let me know when you can.

If you want to get back to the origional way your computer, restart and use
F11 to launch the recovery mananger, that way you will be able to return your computer to it origional state or earlier time.

Even if your computer wont boot all the way up you should be able to get to this screen using F11

Thanks for the help Vanti, although this Quickweb software is running before Windows starts to boot. When I start the laptop I get a blackscreen and then the quickweb setup begins.

Thanks 1k9, I have not tried the f11 key on boot yet. One thing that does worry me is that the quickweb software is somehow starting before the bios (although this is impossible isn't it?!). It's just I get nothing before the quickweb setup screens begin - just black and then the quickweb setup screens. The laptop is using an SSD so perhaps it's all just loading really quickly (but then the BIOS has nothing to do with the SSD so it should still be appearing right?). Anyway, I'll give f11 a go and see if it does anything.

Btw, on these envy laptops, when in windows the fxx keys are only accessible when also pushing the function key - is this the same outside windows? So on boot I'd need to hold the function key as well as f11 in order for it to be f11 that I'm pressing?

Thanks again for the help guys :)

Hi 1k9, unfortunately f11 didn't do anything - it just goes straight to the quickweb setup screens as usual. I've tried tapping it repeated from the moment I switch the laptop on, holding it down constantly, tapping it with the function key held down - all do nothing.

Any other ideas what I can do?

Btw is this booting without seeing the motherboard startup screens normal?

    Thanks for the info 1k9.

Unfortunately f11 doesn't have an effect on mine :( ...don't know if it's the HP Quickweb software getting in the way or if it's my laptop that's playing up. Hmmm...

Thanks loads for the links 1k9, I really appreciate it :)

I'll take a look and see if I can get it sorted. Will post back if I do, so that it might benefit others that come across this issue.

Turns out removing the HDD solved the boot issue. :)

Once the HDD was removed a 'no hdd error' displayed which enabled me to get in the the BIOS to change the boot priority to the optical drive first. I could also then turn on quickweb from the bios. Then put the hdd back in and as was well.

Thanks again for the help guys :)
